They say this "worse drought in 40 years" is caused by global warming.  Maybe so.  What caused the one 40 years ago?

Silly scientists, of course we all know there is only one cause of a drought.

Isnt alot of this caused because of the immense amount of slashing and burning of the rainforest? National Geographic and animal planet have had a couple of stories about this, saying that the soot being thrown up into the air is screwing up the weather really bad, and the rainforest that is being flattened is no longer there to hold the humidity down. There was an overhead shot of guatemala taken in 1990 and present day, and it was very sad to see how much of the rainforest had been obliterated.

Again, there's no way to point to any 1 event, such as a hurricane, a drought, a wierd rainy season, etc., and say "This event itself was caused by anthropogenic climate change."

However, the global climate change models often predict that a wide variety of the things we see only 1 time a century, whether it's a drought, or 2 category 5 hurricanes, etc. will become more common based on those changes in climate.

You get the droughts, the hurricanes, etc. with or without climate change. The question is the frequency of them, the intensity of them, and what it does to the average conditions in the area.
