Chisoxfn
QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) Hang wiff ems? I saw pop-ups, ground outs, and horrible bunt attempts. I remember AJ hitting the ball hard (but that was off KRod) and Uribe hit a hard fly out to Anderson (off Byrd). Sox hitters looked fooled for most of the game. AJ line shot..Uribe had a line shot...Dye had a line shot early in the game...there were hard hit balls. Didn't you guys listen to Byrd during his post game interview, he even alluded to getting a little lucky out there cause the Sox hit him up in the middle innings. Plus you had a couple rockets early in that inning the Sox scored some runs.
greg775
I have never seen a bigger disadvantage in the dugout with Scioscia absolutly raping Ozzie. --Oh and by the way, you wouldn't be saying this if somehow Paulie had connected in the eighth for a home run. You'd be deliriously happy like the rest of us! He didn't. We lost. s*** happens. We were flat. Sucks.
Milkman delivers
Take it easy. I'm just pointing out a possible trend. And I'm not even sure if what I asked was right. It was a question. And we don't want to repeat history now, do we?
qwerty
Byrd had a 1.19 whip and 3.74 era on the season. Just because he is a junk throw does not mean he is bad, s***ty, garbage... and of the words that i have seen describe him tonight.
Rowand44
QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) Jas not many are b****ing. Overall, people are just frustrated we beat ourselves. Every loss isn't the same. I'm more frustrated over this one than i would be a 'normal' loss. You just hate to give away games in the playoffs. There's a lot of b****ing krush. We're all frusterated by tonights game I'll guarantee you that. I actually feel like s*** right now, like literally don't feel good. Unfortunately this crap happens and we weren't sweeping are way through the playoffs. For the record for people saying we can't win in Anaheim, we were 2 and 2 out there this year...so enough with that excuse. This team came out flat today and with 3 days rest which is a ton for a baseball team it should have almost been expected, I was actually very nervous coming into this game for that exact reason. CSF
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 10:25 PM) Shut up. There will be no whining or b****ing whatsoever. You want to whine and complain do it elsewhere. This team is a playoff team, thats won one round and got beat. They hit Byrd up later in the game and just had some hang wiff ems. And Crede sure didn't choke early in the game when he hammered a solo shot. Seriously, shut the f*** up. There's another game tomorrow and I'm not gonna deal with people jumping off ledges. Frankensteiner
Ozzie would look a lot smarter had his team executed anything. I guess you can blame him for asking the players to do those things, but that's lame IMO. PS- Rowand is a f***ing horrible bunter. How can a below average major league hitter not know how to bunt? Byrd's pitch count was almost non-existent through the first few innings.
iWiN4PreP
im not expecting to go 11-0 in the playoffs however i was expecting a win tonight. them being tired every advantage was ours paul byrd vs. jose conteras. game 1 is hard to lose because it sucks seeing the team down 0-1 home field advatange was lose we gave them game up and thats what makes me sad about tonight . i was not hoping for 11-0 in the playoffs . but you make a v. good point and yes tommoow is another day another game. Yeah some are. I am talking more about the "f*** this guy and f*** that guy and this team is f***ing crap". I feel like you do man, especially because of how this loss happened. It was never a goal to sweep through the playoffs for me. As far as i'm concerned, the boston series is irrelevant at this point. We started the night 0-0, and i just wanted to win game 1. It has nothing to do with the previous series you know?
greg775
It's frustrating when guys can't lay down a bunt. I disagree with bunting there right after the error, but I know why Oz did it. It would help when he calls the bunt the player lays it down successfully. They "practice" it every day; guys like AROW and Pods who are not reincarnations of Babe Ruth, have to lay it down when asked. I still say we were flat; will it end up killing us? Who knows? I agree going to Anaheim 0-2 is a recipe for a quick exit. GO SOX!
Chisoxfn
Managers look smart when there players execute. When they don't they look like fools, regardless of how good or dumb a call was. Was this a winnable game, sure. What kills me is that Jose pitched freaking brilliant and picked up the loss. Giving up those outs also hurt, but I have seen worse losses, like when you have runners on 3rd with less than 2 outs and can't get runs in (which the Sox didn't do). Tomorrow's another day, they play there style of baseball and its back to an even series. If they don't, they'll be in trouble. They've got us this far, and I got faith in this club. Also, I'm not by any means saying that everyone's whining, I was mainly going off on the original poster. I'm a little short when it comes to people stupidly complaining and acting as if Byrd is this AAAA pitcher. This is a big league pitcher, who has never depended on velocity in his left and flat out stepped up. You tip your cap to the opponents and try to get them the next day. Chisoxfn
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) I don't think he's all smoke and mirrors but our guys were swinging at every piece of garbage he threw off the plate. Byrd's pitch count was almost non-existent through the first few innings. At the same time, he's not the type of guy you sit back and wait on. He's a good pitcher who throws strikes. With those type of pitchers the best pitches are often early in the count. This guy set an Angel record for fewest walks from a starting pitcher (I think thats with 200 or more IP). Tip your cap to the other team, focus on the next game.

greg775
What kills me is that Jose pitched freaking brilliant and picked up the loss. Me too. I think it's a very critical loss cause it was the type of game we normally win and need to win. Game where our starting pitching was great. We had to squeeze out four runs to win this one. A couple big hits and we'd be forgetting the bunt snafus. But it is very disheartening to not win on a night Jose gave us that effort! Dye, I don't even know what the hell you are thinking Podz, congrats on becoming utterly useless, all-star. Arow, don't bunt, just don't bunt ever again. I have never seen a bigger disadvantage in the dugout with Scioscia absolutly raping Ozzie. you realize this was game 1... right? IMO its kind of stupid to jump ship soooo early... but its your choice. Byrd: hes crafty, but you would think that the sox could handle a #3 starter
