Greg The Bull Luzinski
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) Jack McDowell said that our hitters needed to stop swinging for the fences on fastballs. Quote of the night. Everybody else sees it, why not our own hitters.
southsider2k5
QUOTE(~~HighHeat45~~ @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) The bunt dye put down on the first pitch in whatever inning was the the worst call all season. It made no sense at all and even if it somehow worked and he got on i still would be saying that. There is no way that was called from the bench. That was all Dye. Middle Buffalo
QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) ozzie was totally outmanaged tonight. Players failed to execute. If Ozzie puts calls for a bunt, and Pods can't come close to getting it down (then looks at strike 3), how is that a managerial error? If Ozzie puts calls for a bunt, and Pods can't come close to getting it down (then looks at strike 3), how is that a managerial error? Its not. The players just were not sharp last night. I don't know if it was the 3 days off, or the jitters, or what, but it just wasn't there. Tonight should be a different story.
GreatScott82
Last nite sucked. Lets get over it. We luckily don't have to think about more than 1 day. Lets tie it up tonite. I want to see some Power out of the guys also.
Bias
My concern is that they make too much out of last night. Scotty getting gunned down on the pitch out, AJ running for who knows why, not getting the job done (bunts) etc. I'm concerned because after they ran themselves out of a couple of innings it seemed guys weren't as aggressive. Case in point, I don't think there was any way anybody could've thrown Uribe out @ 2nd after the wild throw. No way Erstad gets to the ball in time and makes a Bo Jackson like throw to gun him down and Molina was even further away than Erstad. Uribe SHOULD'VE been on standing on 2b. I think if the score was tied and they hadn't run themselves out of a couple innings Uribe wouldn't have hesitated going to second. They gave one away, if they get their focus back they'll be allright. Not saying they WILL win it, but at least they won't give games away and win games they should. Uribe did his best to pull a Dybber when he overran 2nd base on the hit to right field. I almost had a heart attack.
LVSoxFan
I'm not ready to panic about last night because it was just one of those games--full of miscues. The only thing that was right-on was--can you believe I'm saying this?--Contreras. He was rock-solid as our defense and offense bumbled around him. Oh well. I thought he should have gone to home on that come-backer but nobody else does, apparently. But talk about a sloppy game: -Crede's double-clutch missed out at first -A.J.'s double clutch on the PITCHOUT (!!!) and they steal a base -Dye bunting with no outs (!!!) -AJ stealing second... huh? -Pods unable to put down a bunt... -Rowand ALMOST fielding that bloop single -Tad's overthrow on the double play It was a comedy of errors. Best left forgotten. I think we were rusty and a bit apprehensive about playing Anaheim, whereas, as tired as they may be, they had no time to think about anything--they just had to play ball. There's a lesson to learn from there...

BigEdWalsh
QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 08:14 PM) They executed - they won. We didn't - we lost. They even said on the pre game that our hitters had to lay off the guy's slider and we didn't. No one can put down a damn bunt. We ran ourselves into outs. Ozzie outmanaged himself. They got the momentum. We lose tomarrow, then that means we are in trouble. Im going to sleep it off now. I agree that Ozzie outmanaged himself. I could not believe that in the 9th inning with LA and everyone in the park expecting Rowand to bunt they didn't cross 'em up and have him swing away, a little hit and run perhaps? That was plain stupid, I was really miffed big-time! It wasn't exactly a horrible bunt but with LA expecting it, it obviously didn't work. And for the one millionth time, Pods has got to stop trying to steal 2nd. With last nights loss, a W tonight is an obvious MUST. GO WHITE SOX!!! Middle Buffalo
QUOTE(BigEdWalsh @ Oct 12, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) And for the one millionth time, Pods has got to stop trying to steal 2nd. Absolutely. Pods is obviously not at full speed. If he's running, the batter better be swinging.
