All Sox fans...

COME ON!!!

I'm one of you. But get with it. If that call goes against us instead of for us, to lose a game no less, then you guys are crying a river about how you got screwed and there's no way that ball wasn't caught!!

It's funny to see you guys rationalize what was obviously a blown call and try every way to explain that the umpire made the correct call. Watch the news conference with the umps - it's clear that they know they blew it!!

do you think it's possible that some of us may in fact believe it's the right call?

or do you think that it's possible that we realize we got a break and we're happy about it because we won the freakin game?

honestly - they won game one and they shouldnt have, and we won game 2 and we shouldnt have. reverse it and it's still 1-1

You're right--I'd be absolutely livid if this call were to happen to us. Similarly, compare this to the intentional lean-in by Joe Crede in Oakland earlier in the year. Most realized he leaned into the pitch, yet still complained incesssantly despite it being the correct call. It's the nature of fans.

However, this isn't exactly clear cut as ESPN makes it out to be. No definitive Jeffrey Maier moment. Again, two points here: One, the ball appeared to skim off the ground on superimposed replays provided by FOX; Two, whether or not you deem his fist-clinching motion as a strikeout, it's clear viewing tape he used the same motion throughout the game for strike calls. At this point, whether or not he verbalized the command is important. The umps not entirely without fault--his mechanics weren't clear. But it was Paul who took everything for granted.

And remember, this umpire is relatively new and is trust into the national spotlight. He'll probably never find himself in a game such as this again. His career is in jeopardy. How composed would you expect yourself to be at the podium following a game in which the entire nation believes you cost the Angels a victory?

CORRECTION: a CHANCE at a victory. There is no way to know that they would have scored in the 10th and the Sox would not have scored.

We will never know who would have won if JP tags AJ. The call and confusion did not cost the Angels a victory. BIG difference.

The ump did not give up a stolen base, nor did he hang one to Joe.

Exactly. Let me ask you...if you're the pitcher...what would you throw Crede in that spot? I know he hung a splitter...but I still would have thrown a breaking ball in the dirt. Crede knew what was coming too after taking two meatballs down the middle.
