Jimbo's Drinker
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Those CPL guys are never a sure thing, but Collins is pretty damn close. However I predict Collins struggles as a freshman, he has through the roof raw talent and no discipline, and Self HATES guys like that. As he gets into the flow though, he will be quite a player. Sucks that the CPL coaches hate Bruce, although it's definitely not his fault, so I can't really blame him. I heard that Weber really angered the coach of the Illinois Warriors, the AAU team. This really hurt him with Scheyer and JuJu wright. Weber better keep a connection with CPL, because he really does not have a pipeline.
whitesoxfan101
Next year for the Illini will be one of those 20-10, #6 seed in the NCAA tournament kind of seasons. It will be fun to watch and see who steps up as the stud though, and I will enjoy it, although the new standards around Champaign will have people jumping off buildings. Also, Brian Carlwell is going to be a monster, about 6'11 265 with great hands. He just needs to continue to work on the post moves, the thought of him, Pruitt, and Jackson beating people's asses inside is nice.

Ehh Scheyer was going to Duke no matter what, even if we had Self still. JuJu went to Kansas because him and his mother LOVE Self going back to when he started contacting him during his last year at Illinois. Collins is really the first guy we lost because of an angry coach, and I hope this isn't a continuing trend. It's just so hard to get those CPL guys to like you, they are all money hungry frauds and you really have to be a good salesmen and talker, and I'm guessing they don't like the brutal honesty Bruce uses. Either way though, there are good players all over and Bruce is starting to show he can get them.

I don't know exactly what their schedule looks like next year, but unless Carlwell is an absolute stud or Smith starts scoring in the mid to high teens I see them fighting for a spot in the 8-9 game. Randle, Pruitt, an McBride are passable players but none of them can exactly carry a team. Someone is going to have to step up big time for them to have more than a middle of the pack Big Ten team, especially at the point (don't give me Frazier, he needs a lot of work). I see that as more of Kansas' profile next year. Chalmers and Robinson look like they'll be credible guards with Collins being effective in spots, Kaun and Giles will be much bigger threats with some development, and even if Rush leaves Wright should be a better player with his level of talent. They still look like they're at least two years away from their old selves, but they should get better. They seem to be suffering from some weak recruiting by Williams late in his tenure right now, kind of like the next couple of years for Illinois will probably look. The CPL has been pissed at us ever since we didn't hire Jimmy Collins to replace Henson. Self did a good job of getting around it, but that bitterness still exists, and it's a problem. Jimbo's Drinker
That is totally true. Most of your recruits were from Peoria. Chicago recruits go to Kansas and Duke, not illinois.
WilliamTell
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 05:31 PM) They are in the top 10 because the media and coaches love affair for them that goes back to when they first busted out onto the scene as a "mid major" in the late 90's. Gonzaga's play in the tournament, however, has shown their true colors. Only the last 3 or so years have they been dissapointments, and one of them was when they were playing the #1 seed Arizona. Chicago recruits go to Kansas and Duke, not illinois. really? who was the last chicago kid to go to kansas prior to sherron collins? and julian wright does not count because he is from the burbs. who was the last chicago kid to go to duke prior to sean dockery? and jon scheyer doesn't count because he is from the burbs. luther head, kiwane garris, deon thomas, eddie johnson, nick anderson, marcus liberty, ken norman, calvin brock, efrem winters, marcus arnold. those are chicago players off the top of my head who went to illinois and contributed. if i want to research it, that list will get longer. Jimbo's Drinker
Marlon London went to KU. Those names you just listed go way back in the day. Name me a recruit duirng the kruger era who came from CPL. I belive the first for years was Luther Head.

Name me a recruit duirng the kruger era who came from CPL. I belive the first for years was Luther Head. marlon london was not a chicago kid. he was from broadview and attended st. joes. he also stayed at kansas for two years before transferring to depaul. it is true that there were bad relation between illinois and some city coaches during kruger's era. but luther, calvin brock and marcus arnold have all been city kids (from chicago) who have recently joined the team. you said all chicago kids go to duke and kansas and you have yet to produce one name other than sherron collins and sean dockery and i produced those for you. Jimbo's Drinker
Ok in the recent 3 years, some very high recruited players are going to Duke, Illinois from the Chicagoland area..geez. While the crowd was dreaming in chanting "three more years!" there have been encouraging whispers lately on the Rush front. Word is his brother Kareem of the Charlotte Bobcats has cautioned him not to rush into his NBA career. Another thing going in KU's favor is that the family doesn't need financial assistance from him because of Kareem's pro paychecks.

Soxbadger
Wow Wisconsin a pick em at home, if I had the money id bet on that. Eventhough they are struggling on the road, outside of one egg against ND State, Wisconsin has basically been unbeatable at the Kohl center since its construction. And this thread has way to much Kansas Illinois, atleast Illinois will be able to beat KU in football soon.
Jimbo's Drinker
Actually KU has a very very good football program they are building. They outrecruited Kstate and Missouri.
Soxbadger
Very very good football program? Are you that big of a homer. And I stand by my statement, Illinois will be a better football program. As for KU, yes they are improving, no they are not a very very good program. I would not even say they are an average program. Also outrecruiting K-State and Missou, 2 programs on the decline isnt really something to be bragging about.
Jimbo's Drinker
I think KU has a top 30 recruting class, first time in a long time. they have been to a bowl game twice in 3 years. They had a top 10 defense last year, and are adding a bunch of top recruits from texas. by the way badger dude, dave doeren is now your head recrutier, he came from KU, he is goign to make Wiscy that much better. he got some great finds including Charlse Gordon, who could be first round pick. whitesoxfan101
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) Only the last 3 or so years have they been dissapointments, and one of them was when they were playing the #1 seed Arizona. Gonzaga made a Elite 8 run in 1999 and a Sweet 16 run in 2001 to build their reputation, but since then: 2002: L to #11 Wyoming in 1st round 2003: L to #1 Arizona in 2nd round (not too bad I guess) 2004: L to #10 seed Nevada (as a #2 themself) in 2nd round 2005: L to #6 seed Texas Tech (as a #3 themself) in 2nd round I guess that's not TOO bad, but I'm very underwhelmed, in particular by 2002, 2004, and 2005. They had the 2 BIG tourney runs as the "underdog" that nobody too all that seriously. Since then, when people are looking out for them, not so good. whitesoxfan101
Well Illinois is consensus #6 in the land, and Wisky is unranked with a recent home loss to ND State. I can see why it's a pick 'em, but with that said I wouldn't bet either way on tonight's game.
Palehosefan
KU's class is actually closer to top 50, sitting at #47 in Scout rankings, and #38 in star happy Rivals rankings. But the out-recruiting K-State and Missouri part is true, atleast one day before signing day.
