The thing with Augustine is that he's never developed range on his shot. As a matter of fact, he was a better outside shooter as a freshman than he is now. If Augie makes the NBA, he should send his entire check to Dee and Deron. Augie gets so many easy layups during a game. And speaking of the Illini, am I the only one who doesn't understand the Frazier love? Many Illini fans think he's this great future player, but basically all I see is a WNBA look-a-like who dribbles the ball up the court, and then just passes to a wing player. If he's the Illini starter at point guard during his career, they're going to be a mid-level Big 10 team.

Agreed on Augie. As for Frazier, he's VERY good at everything but shooting, hence his stats suck. If he can develop a decent shot, he'll be a very nice bench player. I don't see him ever starting though, unless we don't bring in another class of 2006 player, at which point he might start next year if Rich can't play point. (although I figure next year will be a transition year anyways).

...ok

He's a pretty good defender, that's about it.

See, that was what I was talking about. Someone who is very good at everything but shooting would be Julian Wright. To say Frazier is "VERY" good is a gross exaggeration in my eyes. However, I do appreciate the talk about things like this, as you can never get a legit conversation on the illiniboard.

Illiniboard is full of pricks and cubbie like crazy optimistics.

I stopped reading it when one day they complained about assembly hall being too quiet, then the next week they complained about krush jumping up and down and screaming.

The thing I can't stand is that they think refs are totally out to get them. Every game, win or lose, there's 20 threads b****ing about the refs. And then, if another team's site complains about the refs in the game, they'll state how much those teams are whining. There are always ticky-tack fouls and questionable calls during a game. Sometimes, you just need to make sure you outscore the opposition.

Frazier is a good ball handler in addition to being a good defender. He also is one of the few Illini this year that has shown any ability to penetrate and make things happen. In addition, he seems like he is a very tough player (coming back very quickly from that leg injury he had earlier in the year).

As noted however, he is a terrible shooter but that is a skill that can be developed. If he never develops that skill, he will be a solid guard to have coming off the bench. Watch out for Trent Meachem next year to push Chester to start at the point.

Also, on the subject of Illiniboard, it used to be a pretty solid site three of four years ago. Now it is very difficult to get a solid basketball discussion going there.

Unless you are playing Duke and they get to shoot 30 more FTs then you do and get to hammer your player at the end of the game without getting called for it.

Julian Wright is s***ty??? He is probably the best passing big I have seen in a long time. who cares if he cannot shoot 3's. He is starting to become an absolute beast, he was at first hesitant to bang with the big boys. He pulled down 8 boards against thte likes of Bookout and Gray.

If illinois thinks guys by the name of Trent Meacham are saviors...hahahaaa.

You see Illinois has zero inside game and if they cannot hit their 3's game...well game over.

p.s. julian wright is shooting 53.1 percent from the field, that would be second best on the illini.

Never said Meacham was a savior, just that he would push Frazier for playing time at the point next year. I will be the first person to admit next year is not going to be a great year for the Illini, and hopefully there will just be one year of Meacham/Frazier running the point before Derrick Rose takes over the reigns (knock on wood).

Illinois is struggling on the interior this year as much because their guards don't look to make a solid entry pass as anything else. You can really see Shaun Pruitt getting frusturated in some games by his lack of touches. That being said, yes Illinois does live and die by the three point shot. However, I will not complain about being 20-3 this year with a team that should probably be a 3 or a 4 seed in the tournament.

As far as Julian Wright goes, yes of course I would love to see Wright wearing the Orange and Blue, and no I disagree with whoever said he was a s***ty player. Julian Wright is going to be a force, though he would be an even better player if he developed some range on his jump shot, much like Brian Randle for the Illini (not comparing the two as players, just the easiest guy to point out what a different player he could be with a solid jump shot).

What the hell, did I miss "bash your team" weekend or something? At least none of you have it as bad as us NU people. :P

This is going to sound weird since I've been bashing them all year, but I'm starting to warm up to the Illini a bit more. I used to whole-heartedly agree with Chisoxfn, but their defense has been better than I expected in Big Ten play, and McBride and Randle are starting to become bigger offensive threats. They definitely rely way too much on the 3, but they've started playing a bit better even if Dee shoots like crap. That said, they still have some tough teams left to go. They've still got a shot to win the conference, but they're going to have to win a tough one to compensate for that Penn State loss. They look like a #3 seed that'll make the Sweet 16, but I wouldn't count on them beating someone good. If they get a tough #6 seed they could go down though.

Indiana and Wisconsin also really seem to be slipping right now. I expected a drop-off from Wisconsin, but I didn't expect a loss to Purdue. Neither of them are in sync now, and that is really dangerous in the Big Ten. I think Indiana can still come up with a tough win somewhere with a good shooting night, but Wisconsin has been brutal.

That unexpected Illinois loss really seemed to open up the conference a lot. Now that Iowa has a one game lead on everyone their chances got a lot better, although they have to shoot more like they did the last few games than they did early. As I said last time, Illinois, MSU, and Michigan are right in the thick of it, and one of those teams will probably win the conference. I don't want to rule out OSU though because they have a balanced team that is fairly deep. They have a lot of tough games left though, and their best win to this point by far is Wisconsin at home.

ACC also had "talks" with the refs from the Duke-BC game, as well as talking to BC's coach about it. Atleast the bias is finally getting out to the media now, but I don't expect much to come of it.

Not in conference, we will have to wait till the Tourney where JJ misses 13-17 3 pointers and they lose again.

:rolly

You didn't hit a shot at the horn that appeared to win the game.  And Julian Wright is still having a s*** year, but he's going to develop into a solid ballplayer.

s*** year?? LOl

you obviously know very little about college hoops.

ROCK CHALK. Coincidence that Self's full court traps and pressure won that game for them?? Probably not, he could'nt be that smart of a coach :huh . They only get better from here folks.
