ZoomSlowik
QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 21, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Iowa beating a Kentucky team without Randolph Morris isn't really a bold prediction. UK without Morris is really more like a borderline top 25 team. Tell that to the pollsters and various experts who rank them as a borderline top 10 team. I agree with you, but from what I've seen that isn't a generally held opinion. Frankly I don't know if Kentucky is a top 10 team WITH Morris, but that won't be an issue for a while. It appears the NCAA is taking their dear sweet time as usual. Edited November 21, 2005 by ZoomSlowik
Palehosefan
Chaminade vs. #4 (at the moment) Michigan State - 2:30 (eastern) ESPN2, Ugly game, unless cramps play a factor again. But I don't expect this game to be within 30 points. #9 Gonzaga vs. #24 Maryland - 4:30 ESPN2, Maryland will take this game. Without Turiaf, the Zags don't have much inside. MD has more depth and better talent overall. Unless the Zags go nuts from outside, MD should win by 10+. #14 West Virginia vs. #2 Texas - 7:00 ESPN2, should be an ugly game. Pittsnogle can't handle Aldridge down low, nobody can stop Gibson on the WV roster. Pittsnogle will get his points from outside, but the game shouldn't be close. #20 Iowa vs. #8 Kentucky - 9:00 ESPN2, I like UK here, even without Morris. Rondo and Alleyne will do a great job defensively on Horner and Brunner respectively. Joe Crawford will outgun Adam Haluska. I do think this will be the best game of the day, along with Kansas and Arizona. #10 Arizona vs. Kansas - 9:00 ESPN, Arizona lost alot inside when Frye left, and lost alot outside when Stoudemire left. I see Kansas with the early upset here. You will see some real nice freshmen going at it, Marcus Williams at Arizona, though less heralded than the KU frosh, will be a very good one. Arkansas vs. #3 Connecticut - 11:30 ESPN2, yuck, thats all you can say about this one, yuck. Arkansas might stay with them early, but UConn's talent will outclass them by the 2nd half. Heads22
Don't go that far. Hawai'i is certainly not a bad team. They ain't great, but they don't suck. Chaminade still giving Sparty troubles.
ZoomSlowik
It's looking a lot like MSU can't find anyone that can score outside of the Ager/Brown/Davis trio. That's really going to hurt them eventually unless something changes. A bad night by any one of those three could spell trouble against even mediocre major conference teams. I don't think their D is good enough to consistently win if they score less than 70 a game. Edited November 21, 2005 by ZoomSlowik

Don't remember 1983, huh (to be honest I was born that year, but I've heard about it many times)? In 1983, Virginia was 8-0 and ranked #1 in the country. They had already beaten a Ewing-lead Georgetown team and and an early Phi-Slamma-Jamma Houston squad. They agreed to play Chaminade on the way back from a tournament in Tokyo and promtly lost. That remains one of the biggest upsets ever. Plus, they have/had (not sure what the case is) one of the coolest nicknames in sports: the Silver Swords. Ya, I'm very surprised that Lavin hasn't gotten another coaching job. He's a great analyst, but he was also a very strong recruiter and a solid coach. UCLA has a cures that if you can't win it all after a few years your going to be fired. Despite that Lavin did do a pretty good job. They made like 5 or 6 sweet sixteen and the only year they didn't he was fired.

Buehrle>Wood
Maui Predictions: 1st Round Games Michigan State over Chaminade MSU will win in a route. Can't say much more here, as I don't know much about D2 host school Chaminade. What I can say though is that Tom Izzo WILL be in an ugly Hawaiian shirt. Gonzaga over Maryland As I have stated many times be for, I love Gonzaga's team this year. They feature the nation's best player in Adam Morrison and of course one of the nation's best coaches in Mark Few. Maryland doesn't have too shabby of a coach either. The Terps are rated nationally, though I don't think I would put them there yet. They lost do it all guard Gilchrist, and I think this will hurt more than people are saying. Arizona over Kansas No one on Kansas will be able to match-up with Hassan Adams. Adams took a step backwards last year under the shadow of Salim Stoudamire and Channing Frye. Kansas, both young and expierenced, won't know what is going on as 'Zona rolls in a surprising route. Arkansas over UCONN Upset pick here. Atleast most would call it that. UCONN just has too many problems for my liking. I also don't see anyone stopping Ronnie Brewer either. Expect the Razorbacks to give them hell in the win. 2nd Round Consolation Maryland over Chaminade The Terps get a gift to the fifth place game. Chaminade again has no chance an AAC power. UCONN over Kansas Bill Self can't seem to win in this tournament either. The Jayhawks don't have the bangers to match-up with Rudy Gay and Josh Boone. I really don't expect this game to be close either. It will be one of the many bumps in the road for Kansas this year, as they are destined for the poor 7th place match-up. 2nd Round Gonzaga over Michigan State Also my pick for the national championship game this year. That just goes to show you how great this preseason tournament is. Onto the game, I think it will be very close. Michigan State didn't look very good in the first game against Hawaii, but they will eventually get their act together, hopefully starting in this game. I still like the bulldogs to win, with NBA bound J.P. Bastista leading the way Arizona over Arkansas Assuming they are matched up, Brewer and Adams is as good as a player match-up as any you will see during non-conference play. The difference, however, will be the talent outside these two. Clearly, UA has the advantage there. This could be Ivan Radenovic's big break out game. Place Games Kansas over Chaminade for 7th place Yet again, Chaminade won't have the athletes to compete with its bigger conference foe. Kansas will roll. UCONN over Maryland for 5th place Both will be suffering from the point guard situations. This game will have to be won with the better big men and without a doubt the Huskies have the advantage there. Caner-Medley is solid but still not as good as the 2 major forces down low for Connecticut. Michigan State over Arkansas for 3rd place Brewer again should provide some match-up problems, though again not sure on how much help he will get. MSU has a nice balanced attack that I don't think the Razorbacks will be able to handle. This game should be a lot of fun to watch nonetheless. Gonzaga over Arizona for the championship An awesome final. This is going to be one of the best games of the season if everything holds through. All-American Adam Morrison won't be stopped, because frankly, no one can stop him. Derek Raivio and Mustafa Shakur is going to be a terrific match-up to watch. Batista on Radonovic will be great as well. I would like to see how Batista handles it. Morrison won't be the only high NBA pick on this team. Final Standings 1. Gonzaga 2. Arizona 3. Michigan State 4. Arkansas 5. UCONN 6. Maryland 7. Kansas 8. Chaminade
Rex Hudler
Greasy, you around or at the game? Do I see DJ White getting minutes tonight? I am looking at a halftime boxscore (IU up 49-32) and he is in the box score. Only 1 shot attempt, though. Also, why didn't Killingsworth play much in the first half? Is Davis just that confident that he is screwing around with lineups? It looks as if he started Wilmont (fresh off a suspension) and Ben Allen. Palehosefan
Gonzaga did indeed shoot their minds out. I've never seen a team shoot as well as they did in the 2nd half. Even their big man Batista is automatic from the FT line. Shooting will get you into the tournament, but like the old Florida teams, it won't get you all the way unless you don't have an off game in the entire tourney.
