Randy Foye was a beast tonight.  25 and 14.  And that's 14 rebounds.  For a guard.

Ya, he's definitely one of the reasons I love to watch Nova play. Their guards just have to do so much and they do just that, it really is a joy to watch.

That's because Ohio State won the Big 10 last night.

i would not be shocked if the wildcats gave osu a run in evanston. not saying they'll beat them, but it's not like osu crushed them in columbus.

You think Weber is a better coach than Izzo?

In terms of getting the most out of his talent, yes. Izzo has slipped a bit from his ass-kicking of the conference a few years ago. His team was absolutely loaded last year, and they would have been a major disappointment if they didn't get hot at the right time. This year's team is even worse. There is no reason that they shouldn't be killing the Big Ten this year. In terms of talent, they are better than last year's Illini team, and I don't think it's that close. Williams is the only guy I'd call an elite player on that team, while MSU has 3 guys with Big Ten POY talent. Plus Neitzel has all the tools to be a very good PG, and Gray/Trannon should be more effective at PF than they are.

I have nothing against Izzo, and he's a better overall coach because he's a solid recruiter. He's definitely got a better resume, and in no way is he a bad coach. But Weber has put together two pretty good seasons the last two years without having the best talent.

I think it could be argued that Weber is as good as it gets in terms of getting the most out of his players (last years team had 3 damn good guards, but Weber got EVERYTHING he could out of them, Roger Powell wasn't half as good as he played, and that bench f***ing sucked, yet everybody contributed in some big spot). This year's team, as much as it angers me, doesn't have the talent to have as good a record it does. Wheras with Izzo, his teams are ALWAYS ALWAYS loaded......

But Izzo as of now is no question a better recruiter (even though Weber is getting way better) and his coaching resume blows Weber's away.

i agree with this, although i am sure it is not a popular view among some illinois fans.

i heard bill carmody on the pre-game show before last saturday's ohio state-northwestern game, and carmody said he thought ohio state and illinois were the two teams that overachieved the most this year in the big ten. now, i don't know if i totally agree with that, but i will say that if preseason you would have told me they'd have been 22-5 this year at this point, i think i would have been pretty happy about it.

illinois is a really flawed team. they have to win with their defense, but their best defensive line-up features randle and frazier, and you can pretty much ignore those guys offensively, which compounds their problems. i give weber credit for making it work somehow.

Yep, agreed with all. The only problem I have with this program right now is the Michigan and Penn State games (especially #2) were right there for the taking, and if we just come up big late and win in those 2 games, we are the one in control in the league.

I know they were a different team back then, but that IU game was also right there for the taking. I know we were expected to lose, but if you are going to win the Big Ten you need to find a way to win some of those games...that was also one of em.

Yay

This is just fantastic news as it's been almost impossible to get a bcs school to schedule a home and home against us, for obvious reasons. :headbang

I give the Hooisers credit...that will be a tough game indeed. The Illini should play them every year, but that will happen when pigs fly.

actually it is probably happening next year. this is from mark tupper's web log on feb. 2:

No word on a scheduled game yet, but Weber recently said he still plans to schedule something against SIU that would include a game in Carbondale. It would probably be one in Carbondale, one in Champaign and one in Chicago.

blog link

and for the record, weber has said throughout his tenure at illinois that they would schedule southern as soon as the players he recruited were off the roster. that would be next year.

and when the pigs fly, will they be wearing capes?

Oh man, there is a great Simpsons reference for that, but I'm already over my quota for the month. :P
