UCLA is going to be dominant in the PAC 10 because Ben Howland teaches his players DEFENSE. Arizona and Washington will always have the talent to be damn good, but they simply don't defend well enough to be a consistent Final 4 type team, either of them. Stanford is really going downhill now that Monty is gone.

Dear NCAA Bracket Selector People (lol):

Please make Gonzaga the 1 and GW the 3 in the Illini's region.  Thanks.

Love,

wsf101

I'd love to see Gonzaga get a chance to play Illinois, I think it'd be a good game.

We'd win by double digits. I'm not confident in this Illini team, but our guards would have all kinds of open looks and Gonzaga hasn't seen a team that defends near the level of the Illini.

Don't give Gonzaga too much credit. Remember Gonzaga has only lost to UConn who will be the #1 team, Washington who at the time had the longest home court win streak, and #3 Memphis. They find a way to win, I don't care who play, Gonzaga plays down to people, but they also play up to people. Plus Gonzaga won't get a #1 seed anyways so this will not happen.

UConn didn't have Marcus Williams at the time, and they are a WAY WAY different team with him on the floor. Washington is a perfect team for the Zags to play, a bunch of scorers who don't defend, so of course that game will be close, and that Memphis game was just 30 minutes of AMAZING play by Morrison to keep the Zags in good shape until he ran out of gas. And mind you, the Zags did LOSE all 3 of those games.

Uh yeah I did say the lost, that's why I pointed them out.

AZ has one of the premier coaches in the game and has already played in quite a few national championships. They are more than capable of consistently being there.

I agree but to be honest, I question how much "coaching" Lute does anymore. They are so damned undisciplined and horrible in late/close games, which brings up the Joe Paterno/Bobby Bowden "is he just there to bring in recruits" debate.

You guys may have won that game, but Lute's won more big games than the Illini ever have.

Doesn't change the fact he's lost it, and that date is a prime example of it. However Iowa should have never let him leave, although I'm sure there is a reason why he did that I don't know about.

I couldn't tell you. Dr. Tom Davis was a good coach too, but we may have a national championship had he stuck around.

Izzo has lost big games before. Coach K has. All great coaches do. The key to great coaches is getting their teams to the big games and getting them to play at there highest level.

Lute still does it and he does it well.

I wasn't rubbing in the fact we won, i was pointing out the close/late game situations in which he screws up. The end of that game was not managed well nor played well.

JJ's reign as all-time leading 3 point shooter didn't last long...

Haha I watched him play tonight, that guy was KILLING it. He only has 2 games left (MAYBE 3 if they pulled a miracle) if they make the dance though, so IMO his only chance to finish ahead of J.J. is for his team to lose the league title game coming up and then make some sort of NIT run.

Conspiracy Theory: Krzyzewski angry with media

By Bill Cole

JOURNAL REPORTER

Coach Mike Krzyzewski of Duke said that certain segments of the media have conducted a vendetta against his team this season for what is perceived to be favorable treatment from officials.

Speaking Friday, Krzyzewski seemed most disturbed by TV sports programs and their illustrations regarding fouls and the disparity in the number of fouls called. He also said that newspaper reporters had overlooked notable aspects of the Blue Devils' season.

Krzyzewski didn't identify specific news organizations, other than mentioning ESPN once. He said he's upset because he thinks that Duke and center Shelden Williams haven't received proper credit for their achievements. Duke had clinched the ACC regular-season title before last night's game against North Carolina and was 27-2 overall.

"Wow, it's been sad," Krzyzewski said. "And I think it's been orchestrated. I not only think, I know it has been."

At least three incidents involving fouls in Duke games have been the subject of scrutiny by some in the media and the ACC. The most recent incident that Krzyzewski referred to came in TV accounts of Florida State's 79-74 upset of Duke last week.

"After we played Florida State - the Florida State kids beat us and we had our shots - the only thing that's on is they're going to critique whether Shelden should have had his fifth foul earlier," Krzyzewski said. "I'm not complaining. They shot 40 free throws, we shot 17. It's part of the game.

"Nothing was ever written about that. Nothing. And the story of the game is when Shelden should have had his fifth foul."

In its first nine ACC games, Duke took 240 free throws to its opponents' 146. One graphic on a sports-news program questioned the disparity and hinted at bias by officials. In Duke's next six ACC games - after an officiating crew was suspended by the ACC for one game for calling an improper technical against an FSU player during the first FSU-Duke game - Duke took 149 free throws to its opponents' 146.

Krzyzewski declined to identify who he thinks is responsible for the "orchestration."

"I'm not going to have an inquiry here, but obviously (it's) whoever puts up the graphics, whoever puts up the footage," he said. "How could that be the play from the Florida State game? Really. Really. They won. But they can't let it go. Why can't you let it go: 'I've got something here.'

"Is it for ratings? What is it for? Why do people do things? Obviously to hang on to this for this long, somebody's getting something out of it. And it takes away from other things. Is that a reason?"

DJ Gallo:

2. The way Duke is playing right now and how tired J.J. Redick appears, I will be pretty surprised if they win the national championship. They still have a shot, of course, but it's going to be on Mike Krzyzewski to find some way to refocus them for the postseason. The same old tactics won't work though. He needs something new. Something fresh. He needs the most inspiring pep talk ever. He needs to gather his players around him before practice today, look them in the eyes and deliver these four simple sentences: "I want you to develop as a player. I want you to develop as a student, and I want you to develop as a human being. My life isn't about playing games. That's why my card is American Express." Armed with the knowledge of how much their leader's credit card means to him, I see no way the Blue Devils can lose.

3. I have no real rooting interest in the whole UNC-Duke rivalry, so please take this as nothing more than an observation from an impartial fan: I watched part of Saturday's game on ESPNU, which featured a split screen showing continuous shots of the Duke student body and, uh … these are not attractive people. And yes, of course -- many are future millionaires who could buy and sell the likes of me, no doubt. But not a handsome lot. Sort of like a thousand Lee Melchionni's. And those were just the females. I imagine it must be quite hard for Redick to find someone muse-worthy on campus for his poetry.
