Not sure if anybody posted this yet, but Dee Brown wrote an article for the Daily Illini Newspaper earlier this week, and it's quite a read.

The kid really goes beyond basketball for all he has done for the school with not only his play, but his actions off the court, being such a big time recruit for the school, all the national attention, etc.

He will be remembered and missed long after he is gone.

Illinois goes to 11-0 with an ugly 61-42 win over winless Coppin State.

Coming up Wednesday is the Braggin Rights game with Missouri in St. Louis.  Be fun to watch Quinny Poo squirm on the sidelines during that game.

A 19 point victory over a team who plays that ridiculous slow down style offense and sit in a relaxed zone on defense is basically a blow out. Coppin State's coach, Fang Mitchell is not one used to being blown out. So he has decided to go with this kinda game in order to give his team a chance. So they have actually LOOKED more competitive in their past two games. A 57-47 loss to OK and yesterday's Illini game.

Overall, another win for the Illini. Big game Wednesday over the hapless Mizzou Tigers who won a tight one against Furman on Sunday :D

What a fraud Texas turned out to be.  It shows yet again that Duke isn't the clear #1 everybody thinks they are.  I just wonder how long it takes everybody to figure out that America's best team (by far) plays in Storrs, Connecticut.

While I will agree with you about Connecticut, especially when Williams get back, I wouldn't be so quick to bash Texas yet. Just because they lost two games, one of them to Duke, doesn't mean that they suck and won't do anything this year. Their major problem is that they have 4 players that they rely on heavily and they don't have a good bench (although Paulino played better in the two losses and Abrams shot well against Tennessee). Now Buckman got hurt 7 minutes into the Duke game and Gibson got hurt 9 minutes into the Tennessee game. They're going to struggle against Duke with Buckman, and once Gibson was out they were not going to beat Tennessee the way they were shooting. It's always going to be tough to win against a team that hits 12 3's while shooting at a 50% clip, much less without your star PG and a solid big man.

I'm not sure how bad those two injuries are, but they'll struggle mightily without Gibson and Buckman, and even with one of them they'll have a tough time beating anyone good. They have to hope that one or two of their other players step up so that their team has more options once everyone is healthy. As the year goes on they'll have to improve their defense and ball-handling in order to make a serious run. However, once everyone is healthy there is no reason they can't be a borderline top 10 team, or better if Paulino develops into a reliable outside shooter. They're not going to go undefeated with their rate of turning the ball over and lackluster defense, but few teams do.

Valpo lost to Duke last night, 104-77. I know this sounds like a blowout, but for going on the road playing the number one team in the nation, this was a good game for the Crusaders. At halftime, we were shooting 50 percent and out rebounded Duke by 10. Now that you know that, we were still down by 9. Duke was just on fire all night, but Valpo had a decent showing.

Great road win the Hoosiers, 71-54 over Charlotte.

The offense shot over 50% from the field and the trey for the game, highlighted by a 10/14 shooting mark from three in the first half.

The front court was solid all night. Vaden put in 14, Strick with 12, and Wilmont with 9.

Killingsworth had a decent game with 17 points and 5 boards. It was great to see DJ get his first action of the season. He looked pretty good getting a block and a big dunk as part of his 8 points and 6 boards.

Also, the defense was solid again. They really helped IU control the tempo of the game, and this forced Charlotte to take A LOT of ugly shots.

Ehh I still think their guards suck ass, although Strickland has looked pretty good.  They are definitely a top 20 team though, probably top 15.

Thank you, Jay Bilas.

Just based on tonight...all that IU looks like it needs to actually be a top 10 team and genuinely be able to challenge people in the tourney is White and Killingsworth playing well together and healthy.

MK has been tearing up games in the lane already on his own. If you stick another big guy in the middle, and allow for rotation between the two, extra fouls to give, another set of hands in the way of shots, that team is just going to own the lane on both ends of the floor.

If the guards can make open jumpers, that team will shred a lot of people by just going inside and taking the play if it's open or passing out to the guard open because of the doubleteam. Simple fundamental basketball...but they've got the people to make it work.

Valpo won at Charlotte this year too. Don't get too excited.
