to me the highlight of the game last night was dee ripping the team's ass right before halftime for letting that mizzou player drive untouched to the basket.

i loved the fact that he was letting his teammates know that is not acceptable, even though they were up by 18.

bravo, dee.

Just got back from the 'braggin rights' game, staying in champaign for the night. SnB came down with us.

Some rivalry game...

We now await Jan 5th for the big one

What are your thoughts on Randle? It seems to me he's starting to piece it all together and I think he could be a heck of a baseketball player, but, his passes are real, real sloppy and I'm seeing some things when he's putting the ball on the floor that I don't like.

You're probably seeing him much more than I, what do think we can expect from him not only this year but 2007 and beyond?

randle is just such an athletic freak it's ridiculous. If he can start becoming more involved on the offensive side (getting open, moving more, being more aggressive) he could be a force. On the defensive side, he just needs to stop hacking.

that question wasn't directed to me, but let me take a stab.

i think what we've seen so far is the slow maturation of a guy coming off of a missed season. he's had a few setbacks but has generally progressed well so far. that said, i'd expect a slight regression at the start of big ten play, due primarily to the night-in, night-out tough competition. by the end of the season, though, i think he will be a steady contributor and probably the team's best defender.

down the line, his development as an offensive player is going to be key to his long-term future. he is freakish athletically, so he'll always score on putbacks, dunks and effort plays, but right now he can't be a primary offensive option (doesn't need to be) because teams can just zone the hell out of him. his jump shot is just plain ugly. he's the anti-jamar in that respect.

i think randle has nba potential, primarily because he's 6-8, really athletic and plays great defense. however, if his offensive game doesn't improve he won't be in the league.

my $.02.

Yeah, you know, we keep hearing he's an athletic freak, but, I'm not just seeing it so far. Right now, he's just a glorified defensive specialist. To me, it seems an athletic freak should be able to move off screens, get open, and dribble the basketball. Defensively, he's pretty outstanding.

Maybe I'll start to see his freakish athleticism when he can dribble, shoot and pass the basketball. ;)

we'll see what he's really made of on offense next year when he'll have to be a primary scorer.

Or maybe when he runs the floor and jumps through to the roof to throw down a dunk?

Anyway, as has already been said Randle is a defensive stud and IMO he will find himself in the NBA down the road. He's a great athlete, real long, great defender, and nice offensive potential.

My take on randle...

Sure he's super athletic, and that's going to help on defense. He will be able to take on some tough athletic guys on the other side of the ball. However, i've noticed this year that he doesn't move his feet enough on defense. I mean, i think the quickness is there, but he always reaches instead of moving his feet. I don't really understand it. If he keeps doing that, he'll be in foul trouble in Big Ten play so much that he won't be much of a factor and we'll have to rely on guys like Warren Carter for more minutes. That would not be good. He really has to stop getting cheap, lazy fouls.

On offense he's going to be good around the basket like doctor said...with tips, dunks, etc. Right now i don't know how good his grasp of the offense is. I'm at many of the games, and i often hear Bruce yelling (hell who doesn't) "MOVE BRIAN!!!!" I don't think Brian has a real good idea of what he needs to be doing on each possession. He also seems to get the ball pretty far away from the basket (3 pt line) too much. I don't think he's a guy that can take the ball in from that far. Also, since he hasn't proven he can hit any sort of outside shot (not necessarily 3's obviously), it's easier to defend him when he does get the ball. His shooting has to improve. I don't expect him to be a great shooter, but he can't be such a hack shooting or he's never going to get any respect from the defense on the outside. It will be much too easy to defend him.
