fathom
Good pitches...takes some balls to throw two straight fastballs to Vlad.
maggsmaggs
Count shows some kahones there with Vlad up. Even though that was a pretty hittable pitch, Vlad just in a funk.
redandwhite
I don't want to see Vlad in a similar situation late in the game. We'll hear from him before this series is over.

He ain't Bob Gibson or Jim Palmer, even though we're trying to convince him that he is. please. lay off his junk and lean into his mistakes. SSH2005
Why must we hit like f***ing s*** vs. Byrd <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Because he throws breaking stuff and other junk. Our guys like fastballs.
fathom
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 17, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) Why must we hit like f***ing s*** vs. Byrd He's changing speeds and is more inside/outside than the previous few righties were. We've had our chances tonight to drive the ball, but haven't cashed in on poor pitches. They're going to Escobar early in this game, so unless we want to see that nasty splitter, we need to start hitting liners again.
Rowand44
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) Why must we hit like f***ing s*** vs. Byrd Byrd's nailing the corners so far and when he's not he has our guys off balance. He's pitching a good game so far, that's why when we get the opportunity we have to play small ball this game.
CYGarland
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 06:30 PM) Why must we hit like f***ing s*** vs. Byrd He fooled us once in Chicago, shame on him. He's fooling us again in Anaheim, shame on us..........I thought we were going to hammer him tonite. He's locating well, but has made mistakes that we could have SMOKED
winninguglyin83
confounds me that we can string some hits together against a soft-tosser like Kelsey Grammer
fathom
I haven't seen too much of it tonight, but one of the things I remembered from the Cubs being up 3-1 in 2003 is that they seemed to lose some of their focus at the plate, and try to hit the 3 run homer with no one on base.
