santo=dorf
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 03:42 PM) With all due respect, to the both of you, that is just ridiculous. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's not as ridiculous as saying Manny is the most underrated defensive player in baseball. Why don't you back up your claim? Juggs, can you find fielding splits somewhere? I would really like to see how many of Manny assists were due to a visiting player misjudging a ball off of the monster, or losing a flyball in the sun and getting the runner at second. iWiN4PreP
Redandwhite, you ok in the head? Where you watching when manny didnt even flinch, when a ball was hit in bewteen him and the ss in the ALDS, luckily the ss caught it, but if he dives and misses ball goes past him? manny doenst try. he is bad at defense in general. JUGGERNAUT
redandwhite Manny is horrible. Give me one REAL reason why he's underrated. His assists? He's in Boston and people try running on him all the time. He gives up on fly balls, he gives up on bloopers, he gives up on throws. How is that underrated? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He is not horrible but amongst regulars he's probably the worst. Can we agree on that? Manny's fielding gaffe's are much more mental than physical. He is capable of producing a web gem. He has produced his share over the years. He can do it with his glove or his arm. But too often he has a mental lapse & looks like a lil' leaguer. That leads to poor ZR
BigSqwert
Why would we consider getting rid of good pitching to get a head-case, showboat, tool like Manny? I thought we got where we are because of pitching, defense, fundamentals, and smallball. Manny dosen't fit that equation. I'll pass.
redandwhite
Yes, he does have his "moments" and will botch the occassional flyball, but he has an above average arm, has adjusted to Fenway beautifully, and overall is a fine defensive player. He's not going to win any awards defensively, but that isn't what he's being paid to do. Manny Ramirez has been an intregral part of the best offense in baseball for the last three years. He enjoys playing the game, his teammates love him, and no one smiles more than Manny. He'd be a great fit for an organization like the White Sox, end of story. Frank the Tank 35
QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 02:32 PM) We can't rule out the Yank$ either. Despite the likelihood he'll win the AL MVP this year there are already grumblings in NYC that ARod could be headed out. His failure to emerge as Mr Oct 2 yrs in a row doesn't sit well with the fans there. The could trade ARod + $50M to to free up cash for Kong. As if freeing up cash has ever been a necc for them The New York papers (I know, how accurate, right?) are speculating that the Yanks move Sheffield this offseason. They have to resign Matsui, and they'll have to sign as many relief pitchers as possible, especially since Gordon is leaving and looking for a closing job. One paper wanted Vernon Wells, but I don't think the Jays would bite on that. Another says Sheff for Rowand and prospects. I think Rowand plus Marte would do it. No, it's not fair value, but they are trying to get younger and those two would fill voids for the Yanks. Do I want Sheffield? Not really, not at his age. He's still a great player but is bound to start seeing a decline in production sometime soon. We'd be putting the onus on the immediate future, not that there's anything wrong with that...just not my style. I also remember that during the year, Sheffield had some hissy fit because his name came up in trade rumors and supposedly said he wouldn't play for any other team. Hmm... anyway, just a thought. redandwhite
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 16, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) So thats why he makes those plays in the outfield! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, that is why he is a good teammate. If you take the Zone Rating and Range Factor stance, then I'd really like to hear your opinion of Alex Rodriguez' defensive abilities. I guess you could give me the "he missed a pop-up that one time" but I seem to remember a game that Manny Ramirez hit a game winning home run after a Joe Crede botched ball in foul territory. Is Joe Crede a horrible defensive player too? So whats your proof, Felix?
aboz56
WORST THREAD EVA! Enough said. Manny and the Red Cubs are at home pissing their pants still wondering how we swept them while we are cleaning house in the ALCS. Terrible thread.
