White Sox extend thanks to fans

Chicago White Sox

Dear White Sox fans:

American League Champions. It's been 46 seasons since those words described your Chicago White Sox. Sunday night, that long, frustrating wait for Sox fans and the city of Chicago ended. We did it! You did it! Congratulations to each and every White Sox fan. You deserved this victory. You earned this victory. You supported this team through both thick and thin, through the good times and the bad.

As our players danced and celebrated on the infield in Anaheim, you were there. As we sprayed champagne in the clubhouse, you were there. As we raised the American League trophy, you were there. And as we posed for a triumphant team photo, you were there -- joined by the passion and spirit of generations of White Sox fans.

As important as any home run or any complete game victory, your support helped make this possible. It could not have happened without you. Enjoy every moment. Relish the celebration. We are American League Champions. Let that idea sink in over the coming days.

Thank you from the three of us, from the entire team and from everyone with the White Sox organization. Here's to four more victories and a World Series title.

Go Sox!

Jerry Reinsdorf

Ken Williams

Ozzie Guillen

The rest of the Chicago White Sox

You know, as much as everyone has been critical of Jerry over the years, I'm really happy for him.

That was really nice.

same here. he really opened up his wallet - but also he gave his people (KW and Oz) the chance to go for something completely off the wall. he deserves a lot of thanks for being so open minded this year

There should be a statue of Jerry in downtown Chicago for what he has done for this City.

Thanks to JR, a guy who has wanted to put a winner on the field every day since he took over. I've never had the impression that they were happy with anything less than winning it all, and they tried over the years to put together a winning combonation a few times. They came close in '83, in '93 and especially in '94 they really had as good of a shot as anyone.

Now thanks to Ozzie's influence and KW's eye for talent we have got there, we have built a team based around the most important fundamentals in baseball that could be around for years.

My family has had season tickets continually since 1970, this is what we live and die for, it's hard to describe what this moment means, I just hope we keep rolling and we get to keep celebrating!

Go Sox! Thanks JR!

====================

Now I have sparred with many here in the "attendance" threads, but I have always said, if we get people to attend the games, Jerry will spend. This will be a test of that theory since our attendance was up significantly this past year and we have had 4 playoff games already (all sold out) + at least 2 more. Will all of you who said "Jerry does not care about winning, he only cares about filling his pockets" man up if you are wrong. Stay tuned until the offseason.

Thanks Jerry for building this club. Let's dominate for the next decade now....I want a contender every single year. Let'smake the White Sox, what the Spankees have been. :cheers

Bill Veeck said it best, you don't make any money operating a baseball team. You make your money selling a baseball team.

An owner, considering they all have such deep pockets to begin with, just doesn't want to take a bath in any given year. Year-to-year, the intent isn't to squeeze out a couple of pennies. Over time, you build value by having a big fan base, good TV contracts, strong revenues, etc.

But the best thing about Jerry is he just wants to win. That's it.

I just wrote him a letter which he'll probably never read but it was written in all sincerity. I have been down on KW for a long time for a number of reasons but he proved once again why it's a damn good thing I'm just a fan and a guy like him is running this show. I will be forever grateful to him for the changes he made, hiring Ozzie, etc. My beloved Sox are in the Series. Pinch me.

:cheers
