LowerCaseRepublican
OK. I'm in dire need of some good online resources regarding how "Lone Wolf and Cub: Vol. 1 (Sword of Vengeance) fits the basic ideas of what a chambara film should be. In particular, I'm looking as to why it was so much gorier and violent than the previous chambara films made (i.e. the limbs getting chopped off, etc.) Any assistance would be much appreciated. I know we've got a few film nuts that have seen the movie and know their s*** about film so I am hoping they can come through for me. KipWellsFan
You mean a jidaigeki film? Lots of good information at wikipedia if you hadn't already looked. There's a list of conventions and clichés for this type of movie. I'm not sure however why the Lone Wolf and Cub series came up with the gore because according to wikipedia none of the other movies had really any at all, but it's obviously been a big reason for it's cult status. Anyways you probably knew all of that, hope those links help. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jidaigeki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_Wolf_and_Cub ps I've only actually seen Shogun Assassin Edited October 18, 2005 by KipWellsFan
