hammerhead johnson
If Paul could hit over .300 with a kick-ass OBP and display some actual range on defense, I might consider a 5 year/65 million dollar deal as reasonable. As it is now, he ain't even worth 10 million per. He's a .280 hitter in a good year. Who are we kidding? Paul is valuable, but he's not a spectacular player. I know that someone will be stupid enough to give him 12 million per, and it better not be the Sox. For those that say "Just get him signed, blah blah blah", I'd like to purchase some of whatever it is you're smoking. Seriously.

Konerko may have more value to us than other teams, in a way. Usually when a champ in any sport uses the next offseason to make a 'smart' deal, it derails them for the next year. your points are on target, but even so we'll be asking to become post-Pedro Boston. #2 Who do you replace him with? Not much out there this year. #3 another thing to think about... and i know no one wants to turn the Sox into the social club going on up north... but lets face it. when people buy Sox (like they are this year)... that means more money for free agents, and keeping your own. Keeping Paulie keeps the fans happy, keep someone everyone can (thinks they can) relate to. Losing him means we become that White Flag organization again.... and if we don't get off to a good start next year, we'll be just as ignored as ever by June. If that happens, I bet you payroll comes back down to earth. #4 aside from maybe a reliever or DH... what would be saving this money for, anyway? i'm not seeing too many holes. greasywheels121
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Frank Thomas = future Sox manager. Believe dat. I don't know if there are many bigger Frank fans out there than myself, but I don't see him doing something like that for any team. Maybe that's just me. TheBigHurt
Frank's been with the orgination for so long as accomplished so many thigns, he has a wealth of baseball knowledge. even if it wasn't a manager(at least at first), I really can see him as some sort of coach for the Sox in the future. witesoxfan
QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Oct 21, 2005 -> 03:44 PM) Frank Thomas = future Sox manager. Believe dat. A manager has to be a team leader, a sociable guy, and one that is respected by every player on his team(I am more or less talking about the contract disputes he has had in the past)...those are all traits Frank does not have. You can be smart all you want to, but if you don't have the 3 traits listed above, you have almost no chance of being successful. If you want a potential future manager - look to Manos. He was a team leader(in fact, he was viewed AS the team leader when he was here), he's a sociable guy(almost everyone loved Jose as a person), and respect is earned through playing hard and following through on everything you are supposed to. I think players have a lot of respect for Jose.

Not a chance in hell, I just don't think the guy has it in him. He was a hell of a ballplayer and my favorite of all time however, he is not head coach material. elrockinMT
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 20, 2005 -> 04:16 PM) I really can't see us not brining back Paul. We need Paul Konerko and the Big Hurt both back so let's spend some money. My guess is this is not a valid story anyway when considering Paulie's status. He and Kenny ain't going to be discussing contract during the WS. Afterwards I hope so!

He may not have a personality like Ozzie, but apparently you are saying Frank is not sociable, not respected(O_o), and has no leadership? I cant see how you can say that.
