cwsox
Great place! wonderful community, lots of intelligent people, I think it is a great place. Has a great reputation. I take it you are looking for a job - I am surprised they have so many positions open, but I have heard only great (not good, great) things about Oak park and I love going there to shop or sight see. 3 people from Oak Park: Ernest Hemingway (ok, he shot himself) Frank Lloyd Wright (ok, there was that adulkry and murder thing) me (no comment) (I was just born there and dman pissed at mom and dad for taking me to asuburb to be born rather than stay in Chicago, but IMHO, the only decent suburb so its ok)

Winning Ugly
I used to live in Berwyn and Cicero but occassionally worked in the other True Value my boss owned in Oak Park. Very diverse, but good place to live. My sister-in-law has lived there 15 years now and won't move even though she lives in a huge house off of Wesley and it's just her left in the house. My brother was killed in '98 downtown taking the Congress home from work, and my niece and nephew are off to college. That should tell you something there, her allegiance to the city. Plus, good bars there. Can't remember the Irish pub I used to frequent...
soxfaninbeverly
Oak Park isn't a bad place, afterall, it is the birthplace of Earnest Hemmingway. It can get dicey in some areas, but overall, it is a good community. Ugly, I am sorry to hear about your bother like that.

Winning Ugly
Ugly, if you don't mind me asking, how old was your brother? 48 at the time. Would have been 53 if he were alive today. He's the oldest out of 10 kids. Was my half-brother, as my 3 sisters and 4 brothers had a different father. Only me and my twin bros (age 36) are from my father. I'm the youngest at 30. Dammit! My twin bros birthday was 2 weeks ago. UGH! I forgot...
