Mercy!
You should give Paulie some advice Steff: You're gonna have to learn your clichés. You're gonna have to study them, you're gonna have to know them. They're your friends. Write this down: We gotta play it one day at a time. And my fave: Don't think, it can only hurt the ball club. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The real professionals just keep saying something along the lines of, "There'll be time for me to get into all that when the season is over. It's just not appropriate right now."
fathom
QUOTE(Irishsox1 @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) Don't get me wrong, Paulie has been solid the last 2 years, but I would be a lot more devistated if any of our 6 starting pitchers left. We'll be able to fill in Paulie's spot, just ask Magglio. I think we'd manage just fine if we could get rid of Duque's 5 million, and use it to give more money to PK. Steff
QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 04:25 PM) I think we'd manage just fine if we could get rid of Duque's 5 million, and use it to give more money to PK. It's got nothing to do with having the $$.. but everything to do with not over paying. Paul is not worth $15 million a year to owners with a half a brain. knightni
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Oct 25, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) Here's a good article on Konerko having no desire to go to Boston: Link On another note I wish you could hear the ESPN local show in LA and how they're making such a huge deal out of this roof/no roof "scandal." Must be a slow day in sports. They're so jaded about the Sox, they're suggesting the league wants the Sox to win and that has something to do with the three disputed calls in the ALCS and WS. Soxbadger
How can you determine what Paul is worth without first seeing the market? In simple supply and demand terms, There is a greater demand for 40hr+ 1b, than there is a supply. So I expect Paul to have a generous market value this year. Perhaps if there were other free agents it may not be this way, but looking at Sexons contract, you have to think Konerko is in line for 10+mil. SB Konerko is one of the top two position player free agents ( in my mind). I would consider giles to be better and then konerko... but giles will likely be getting some what less than konerko even though his numbers are superior. His age will be coming into play and the fact he won't go to the east coast where there are two of the biggest spenders in baseball. Konerko will get no less than 12 million a year on average, deserving or not.
