Even though this team had great chemistry, a lot of times the worst thing a franchise can do is to bring back every single player from the championship team out of fear that losing a player would disrupt chemistry.

totally agree. we are not going to capture what just happened next year. not saying we can't repeat or anything, but every team is different every year whether you bring everyone back or not.

i want to see this club improved, and there are ways to do it. losing carl would be one, even though i totally appreciate his efforts. his place in sox history is permanent. his roster spot isn't.

Let's not all forget how anemic this offense was this year. The two most logical spots to upgrade going into the postseason were 3B and DH. After Crede's postseason, I don't see KW dumping Joe. I think we'll see a new face at DH next season. I don't think Frank or Carl will be back...

Yes, we know you're not a Carl fan SnB. :bang

I do NOT envy Kenny Williams this off-season. I'm one of those guys that would love to see this team brough back in its entirety. But, that's just not the way you play the game. Baseball is a business first and if we want to see our now defending World Champion Chicago White Sox back in a parade next season, there are going to have to be some changes made. Namely, getting a concrete name to write in the DH position everyday.

Thanks for your part in helping to bring a World Series to the city of Chicago, Carl, see you later.

He gone.

I don't see us bringing Carl back. What if Frank comes back? Then it's everyone's favorite catchphrase for Carl, "where would he play?"

He'll move on to somewhere else. We can use his money for better things.

I don't envy Williams at all. I sort of wish Everett and Perez would retire. That'd make things a lot easier on us.

I have no idea about Frank's health or if Anderson is ready to contribute at an MLB level, but I think that putting the two together will work out.

That said, Everett really is a great conversation piece. Every time I was watching a game this summer with people that weren't Sox fans and he would come up, I'd explain the dinosaurs bit and tell them about the story of the sign in Oakland that was flat-out hilarious.

Let me just say this as my first reply... We do not need Carl Everett. He comes up big like every 40 games, he swings at every pitch, if we need him for an emergency defensive wise he's horrible, he's not a club house cancer... but he almost never comes threw in the clutch. He had some great times with us but every time i think of everett now its thinking of a terrible at bat.. going down swinging at every pitch in the dirt. he would be a great bench power hitter. I'll miss his homerun swings. but we dont really need him.

Carl Everett after the ASB - .228/.305/.386

He'll be getting his $1M contract with the Yankees to replace Ruben Sierra.

There's just much better options out there. You don't want to bring back Everett as a bench player because he can't play defense. If Frank isn't going to be back, sign a guy like Erubiel Durazo to DH who'd come cheaper, and is a much better bet to have a good comeback season in 2006.

I would use Frank and Anderson to play DH. I think Frank can get back to health, but Anderson is a wonderful insurance policy there. A DH is the easiest thing to trade for midseason because you can add any good bat to that spot and not mess with your defense.

Anderson's defense is too good to have him playing DH. He should be either playing everyday in the OF, or he should be traded IMHO.

Yeah but who would Anderson take over for in the outfield. Obviously not in right or center and I don't think that Pods is your DH.

Things will work themselves out. Anderson definitely won't be the DH though.

Think of all the improvements we've been wishing for all season, the weak spots where we'd like upgrades. Just because the Sox won it all doesn't mean the team doesn't still need improving. The team most definitely shouldn't be brought back intact.

Carl was almost as painful to watch at the plate for a large part of the season as the Houston offense was during the World Series. If anyone really thought that Carl could consistently perform as he did at the beginning of the season and when Big Frank first came back, it would be a more difficult decision.

Obviously Konerko is the Sox number 1 priority and Thomas is number 2.  However I think they have to try to sign Everett.  He has been key to this team.  he is a leader in the clubhouse and he might be a very good guy to come off the bench.  He would also come pretty cheap.  He brings an attitude to the clubhouse that was key to this team.  Just like Pierzynksi that brought a swagger to this team.  I also have a feeling he wants to come back.  Git r done Kenny.

He didn't have a good 2nd half and he can't play the field.

We need to make changes to keep the team fresh. I'd start there and then look to the outfield perhaps.

I want Carl gone as much as anyone(except White Sox Josh apparently)...but I hope I'm not the only one that appreciated what he did in the postseason for the Sox.

I'm still wondering to this second if Willie, even with his tremendous speed, scores from 2nd on Dye's hit up the middle. He probably does...but it would have been 1000x closer had Everett not grounded out to 2B, allowing Willie over to 3B.

I must admit...I'll miss the guys fire and intensity...but his ticket has been punched already.

Carl wasn't bad in the postseason. I really appreciate his first half in which he single-handedly owned the Twinkies. His second half is what earned his ticket off this team but I appreciate what he did for us.
