DBAHO
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) And.......ugh, am I going to have to list the clutch hits that Timo had this season, Timo was the same clutch hitter this year as last, some people like him for that and most people here hate him. Game 3. Houston.
Rowand44
QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) Holy s***, the planets are aligning. If Cashman offered Sheff + $$$ for Aaron + Marte -- wow... where do I sign? I believe this is the last year of Sheffield's deal, meaning if it doesn't go well, we can either trade him at the deadline, or let him go. But, he's going to mash the crap out of the ball in the time he is here. Well I just kind of threw that out there. I mean they desperately need a centerfielder and they desperately need a left handed reliever. I have no clue what they would want for sheff but it seems like he's been on the block for a little while now so I just kind of threw that out there. What do you think? Not enough? I think they're really after Neal Cotts instead of Damaso Marte in a deal like that. Personally I think Torii Hunter for Robinson Cano is gonna happen instead. Of course there's Sheffield, his ego and how he'd fit into the clubhouse etc.

SSH2005
We didn't bank on clutch hitting, we banked on good pitching and good defense. When you have a great bullpen and a team that doesn't make to many mistakes in the field you are going to win a lot of 1 run ball games. And.......ugh, am I going to have to list the clutch hits that Timo had this season, Timo was the same clutch hitter this year as last, some people like him for that and most people here hate him. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, he really wasn't. You are just remembering the few big hits he had this season.

I'm one of the few..hell maybe I'm the only one around here that does buy into chemistry so that is a concern. However, that being said, the guys who had reps of being bad in the clubhouse have become 2 of our leaders(aj, carl).

You are just remembering the few big hits he had this season. Timo was kept around because when he came on to pinch hit in the 8th or 9th with the tying run in scoring position he'd seem to come through, he did that a lot this year as well, I can give you a list if you want me to There's just no stat that shows that and I'm not talking close and late either cause that's a bit different. qwerty
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) El Duque is atleast 45 years old. No way in hell is that dude only 36. I'd say Contreras is around where they say El Duque is, 36yo. Hernandez is fourty. http://www.baseball-reference.com/h/hernaor01.shtml
beck72
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 05:59 AM) Because we won a ton of games just barely squeeking out enough runs, often times with clutch hits. Do you honestly think we are going to get all of those clutch hits next year? I don't. That's why it would be a good idea to improve the offense. I think there's a lot of room for improvement in the guys the sox already have, which will produce a better and more consistent offense. Look at ARow, AJ, Crede, Uribe, Iguchi should improve---those guys had sub par years

Milkman delivers
Sheffield comes with the "cancer" label, but so did AJ and Carl, as was pointed out. He can be a little b**** a lot, but he really seems like he wants to win. This decision would have to be considered by OG and KW for a long time, because I'm sure they know the guy a little more personally than any of us do. If we did trade for him, I'd assume we'll see mainly good things from him because those two were convinced that he'd just shut up and play. I'd just wonder whether or not he's off the juice yet, and that would factor into trading for him, too.
Frank the Tank 35
You also have to take into consideration that Sheff is getting quite old. He needs cortisone shots in his shoulder all the time from what I remember. During the year there were rumors of him being traded to which he said something to the tune of refusing to play for any other team but the Yanks. I do, however, appreciate his street smart sense, i.e., the way he agreed to a contract without the help of a greedy agent. And much to the chagrin of his teammates, media, etc., what he said about himself being the leader in that lineup was absolutely true. He was definitely one of, if not the, most clutch guy in that lineup which is why he bat third not Arod, Giambi, Matsui, etc. High risk/ high reward, so either way I wouldn't be mad. I don't think the Yanks trade Cano for Hunter. I think that even the mighty Yankees are finally at a spending limit. They finally have a couple cheaper guys in Cano and Wang. They're probably going to try to unload some of the heftier contracts (while having to pay a good portion of them). If they traded Cano, wouldn't that just make a hole at 2B? chisox72
QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Am I the only one who wouldnt touch Sheffield with a ten-foot pole? Hell no. Sheffield, while he may still be "somewhat" productive is an asshat. And in no comparison to AJ or Carl. While they might have both had reputations with very little real demonstration, Sheff has demonstrated it on more than one occasion. Be it in the media, with the fans, or just his demeanor. In a word, NO. Keep this jackass as far away from our team as is possible.

nitetrain8601
What's with some people crapping on the Bronze Titan? I think he'll be like his second half this year. I believe he is actually the age he says he is. Some guys just do look older than their age. And for Nolan Ryan, his stuff went when he got too old. Contreras isn't close to that point. sox-r-us
If Paulie leaves, what would we need to give up to get Mike Sweeney? That would be sweet IMHO....yes he has injury issues, but man if Frank came back at DH.... Pods Guch Frank Sweeney Dye Rowand AJP Crede Uribe SWEET FOCKING 3,4,5 for the table setters. What kind of prospects would something like that require? I would not mind giving up pitching prospects too for a Sweeney....thoughts? The Royals already turned down a Casey Kotchman for Mike Sweeney trade earlier this year. We have no position players in our system equal to Kotchman. Also Sweeney is in our division, so I highly doubt they trade him to the Sox. Sweeney can't stay healthy for a full season anyway, not to mention the fact that he's a liability at 1B and he's going to make $12.5M next year, f*** THAT. NO to Sweeney.
