DBAHO
QUOTE(kevin57 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Sorry...he deserves his props for fantastic post-season play, but if anyone tells me they were never frustrated by his offense during the regular season, then he's fooling himself. Hell, even Crede said he did not object to the boos during the season. He said he thought he sucked. Let's not ban because we don't like others' words, please. Crede was terrible for 2 months out of 6. I'm inclined to look at the positive view and say he's turning it around, and we'll see more of the Joe Crede we saw in the playoffs and less of the Crede we saw in May of 2005. DBAHO
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I hope this is the Crede we see next season.... what made it encouraging was because most of his hitting was in the ALCS and WS when he was constantly going up against good pitching....Im certainly willing to give him another season to figure things out. I mean let's have a look at the other third baseman in the AL Central. Aaron Boone - He'll make $3M in 2006. Splits of .243/.299/.378. Michael Cuddyer - May be up for arbitration, I don't know. Splits of .263/.330/.422 Brandon Inge - Splits of .261/.330/.419. Mark Teahen - .246/.309/.376. Make close to min again next season. Now compare those stats to Joe Crede. .252/.306/.454. That's the highest OPS out of any third baseman in the division, and would have been 12th best out of all 3rd baseman in the league if he was qualified (wasn't because of his injury). His OPS's in his good months, .824, .871, .893, 1.178. Average those and you get .9415. That would be good enough for 3rd for all third baseman qualified in OPS behind A-Rod and Morgan Ensberg. Just shows the potential Crede had, if he's consistent enough to put those good numbers up for the majority of a season. Definitely worth bringing back with his defense as well. Punch and Judy Garland
I don't think anyone is saying not to have him back next year, not now anyways. Comparing him to the AL Central thirdsackers proves little though.
greg775
Hopefully that bomb off Oswalt to Right is a good sign of a new approach That's what i was thinking. His season is a total success in my mind just because of how he played down the stretch when it counted. He's one of my favorite Sox now because of that Brooks Robinson like defense in the big games coupled with those hits. He made the most of his five series hits. True, but I was just trying to show Crede's worth offensively compared to what other teams in this division have to put up with when he's up and firing, and how it's an advantage. Wanne
QUOTE(chisox72 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) I agree!!! We never saw this loose, fun, and comical version of Joe Crede ever! Now its almost like he is not shy anymore, nor does he shy away from any attention. I think AJ may have just taught him not to give a s*** and just PLAY! BIG TIME!!! I think that AJ...as well as ARow was the major reason for Joe coming out of his shell. I swear....I don't even recognize him as the same person that started the beginning of the year or last year. He seems like a completely different player...more confident...more relaxed...and I do believe AJ was a MAJOR factor in this.
knightni
It just hurts inside a little to know that Scott Boras is counting with his cash register after every playoff hit by Crede. Edited October 29, 2005 by knightni
sox-r-us
I have been one of the biggest critics of Crede here (Trade for Vinny Focking Castilla? ), but I am a believer seeing him down the line. I think the evolution carries on and we get very solid production + defense from Crede next year. On a similar note, I see Uribe evolving too into a MUCH better hitter who is MUCH better at his pitch selection. How many times in the post season I saw him lay off pitches he never would before.....if Uribe and Crede play like in the post season all of next year, we definitely win the division, even if we lose Paulie. nitetrain8601
I think he came full circle. He's using the swing that helped him get to the big leagues. They tried to tinker with it and in a few seasons, he found himself lost. Now with his basic swing again, he's good. I see him batting .280 with 25HR's and a couple of GG before it's all said and done.

MinnySoxFan
Not sure where to say this without starting another thread- but I thought that if we won the series the Rally Crede thread was going to stay where it has for the last month, over the whole offseason? I don't see why it shouldn't, being that it's basically the reason we are now the WORLD CHAMPIONS!!! WHOOO!!!

To add on to this post and DBAH0s above post... Crede never had an OPS in the .500s, .600s, and .700s in any month of the year. May was pitiful...no excuse for that. However, his .308 OPS or so in August was largely due to his injury. He got healthy and was one of many keys to winning the World Series. SSH2005
No Bora$$ is probably asking for 7 years $119M right now. "Well Joe did what Carlos Beltran did in the playoffs last season!!!!" <{POST_SNAPBACK}> "My client's clutchness cannot be replaced. He deserves an extra $19 million for that alone." The fact is that if we are going to have low strikeout guys like Garland, Buehrle, and even Freddy on our pitching staff, we need studly defenders in our infield. I think our only decently high strikeout starters will be Contreras and McCarthy. So if we keep Paulie and improve at DH from Carl (not too tough), we can afford Crede's offense in the 8th spot. Jordan4life_2007
I'll take .250 from Crede as long as he plays that gold glove caliber defense.

beck72
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) If Joe can get that AVG up to .280 consistently for a few seasons, and keep hitting those 20-25 HR's, his value will be very good indeed. If he keeps repeating what he did in the playoffs, not swinging at the first pitch, not popping it up every AB, I think he can do it. Remember, right now he'll be the most confident he's every been at the major league level. That said, I still hope he's working out in that batting cage he built at his house in the off-season. It'll also be interesting to see if Joe lost weight again this year during the season like he has in the past. He looks /looked OK to me. G&T
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 01:51 AM) The fact is that if we are going to have low strikeout guys like Garland, Buehrle, and even Freddy on our pitching staff, we need studly defenders in our infield. I think our only decently high strikeout starters will be Contreras and McCarthy. So if we keep Paulie and improve at DH from Carl (not too tough), we can afford Crede's offense in the 8th spot. This is true. Many "experts" claimed that the Sox couldn't win it all because they didn't have power pitchers and that means there would be a lot of pressure on the defense. What they didn't realize was that the Sox defense was incredible. We all know the Crede can catch but as for his bat, I think he's an October star. I know it's only been one postseason, but I think that's when he shines. Pressure situations are what he needs. Maybe this guy can hit .280 or .290, but I'm not holding my breath.
