The White Sox got the only award that matters. They all got to hoist it up over their heads in front of millions of people in person and on television last Friday afternoon. Gold gloves while nice mean nothing. Didn't Palmiero win one a few years ago when he was primarily a DH? Its a popularity contest.

The White Sox are World Champions. Who cares about anything else?

I agree with every word of this.

Let everyone else in MLB have the consolation prizes.

I couldn't agree more about him accepting what he got.  I'll remember Uribe's incredible defense in Game 4 a hell of a lot longer than I will remember whether or not any of them won the Gold Glove.  One thing I'll give Rowand a lot of credit for this year is he picked his leadership ability up.  You can tell he's one of the guys that a lot of other players look up to.

None of the guys who are getting Silver Sluggers or Gold Gloves, or Cy Youngs or MVPs were in a parade last Friday. The 2 Uribe plays were incredible. Back to back almost perfectly opposite of each other. I really wonder what other SS could make both those plays. A few could make the one in the stands, but who really has the arm strength to make that final out?

Totally disagree but what someone else stated rings true, the World Championship matters and not much else.

I realize this and it still annoys me Hunter won. Can't wait until he's traded to the National League some day, where he can battle Edmonds on the "reputation alone" division of the GG.

thats not the point!

lol

Uribe deserved a GG.  It doesn't matter, Ozzie will just stack the AL all-star team with White Sox next year to make up for this grave injustice.

I hope Ozzie doesn't put undeserving or borderline Sox players on the All-Star team next year.

That's bulls*** when anyone else does it and it would be bulls*** if Ozzie did it.

I know it's an exhibition and all that, but I don't like that no matter who does it.

well, i won't think it's "bulls***" if Uribe is having a decent year and makes it, or any other White Sox for that matter.

thats just how it works, you win the pennant and you get to select the alternates to the All-star game. gotta look out for your guys

And that's why I said "undeserving or borderline".

:P

If 2 or 3 AL shortstops are having better seasons than Juan and he gets selected because of what uniform he wears, then that's bulls***.

hey, he'll be a defensive pick! :drink

don't worry, i'm sure Ozzie will pick the right guys for the AL team... i'm just betting a bunch of the right guys will come from the Sox.

Rowand had seven less assists this year ( only three this year compared to seven in 2004). He also had 84 more put outs this year than 2004. His arm was too weak this year while dye's was too strong. Rowand would bury the ball into the pitchers mound while dye would over throw everyone and anyone.

So am I, actually.

And I'm already looking forward to the press conference where Ozzie "defends" his selections......"Ah LUUUUUUV Awzie".....

Kurkjian agrees that Aaron Rowand fans (me), have a right to be upset and I agree. Yet I'm really not upset.

I thought players who actually played in the games got these awards, but with seeing that Hunter got it this year, I guess not.

Also, your sig is amazing.

If we're making general broad brush statements here, the pitching staff loved them both.

I browsed MLB.com searching for spin relating to the gold glove awards. This statement, in particular, is hilarious:

"On the surface, Jeter had a modest season with the glove, his 15 errors and .979 fielding percentage ranking middle-of-the-pack. But like Varitek, the Red Sox captain, the Yankees captain's take-charge presence in the middle of New York's infield presented a compelling case for voters. "

Wait--so remind me again how "take-charge" factors into a GOLD GLOVE, yet the statistics used to determine a fielders effectiveness are ignored? I mean, Hunter's take charge attitude in the clubhouse--especially with that meathead canuck Morneau--must have also warmed over the hearts of voters.

I'm really trying not to be upset with these picks, but it looks like they virtually just took the guys that won last year and didn't watch any games this season. Chavez has the reputation, but I don't think he was as good as Blalock or Crede this year. He looked downright human at 3B this year, unlike last year. Jeter is just a joke. He isn't even the best SS on his team. I thought Cabrera was a virtual lock after his stint in Boston, and obviously I like Uribe's season. I'm not sure who I would have taken as the last OF. Ichiro and Wells I have no problem with, but when Hunter got hurt, I thought he was out for sure. Oh well.

Maybe we can get them all next year en route to getting another ring.

Yes, his arm was awful this year compared to how he was throwing the previous few seasons.  Rowand seemed to struggle getting enough air on his throws home this season, and they ended up getting slowed down far too often by the infield grass.  I just remember Rowand's arm being a lot stronger/accurate in previous seasons.  Like I said, there's no comparison between his arm and that of guys like Kotsay, Ichiro, Hunter, etc.

This is pretty much what I saw all season long. Rowand caught almost everything hit in center field but his arm was terribly weak and inaccurate. His throws home were pretty bad. Not sure how anyone saw anything different.

This is a pretty stupid question, but is a player's arm even included in the gold glove?  I mean, it *is* called the gold glove, not the gold arm, but I dont really know :|

It's a judgement of a player's overall defense. It's called a "Gold Glove" award because of Rawlings.

What a damn joke. I love how the Sox still aren't getting much national love. At least we can saw we are the few and the proud. We all know that Aaron should have taken it over Hunter. 92 games played, gimme a damn break! Aaron will just have to prove himself to everybody all over again next year.
