bighurt2719
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) thats not the point! lol Uribe deserved a GG. It doesn't matter, Ozzie will just stack the AL all-star team with White Sox next year to make up for this grave injustice. good. to the winner go the spoils. Felix
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 11:32 PM) what, did you think the awards criteria was that of "who catches the ball best"? Who knows?
GoodAsGould
Now that we won the WS if we have another good season next year I bet our guys will get more of a consideration.....
Frank the Tank 35
For those of you who feel slighted about GG's, check out ESPN's sportsnation poll today. It asks if you think Derek Jeter is the best defensive SS in the AL. Outside of New York (which is close at 53%-47%), the only other states who think he IS the best are Wyoming (6 votes) and Alaska (1 vote). He's currently losing 67%-33%. GoodAsGould
Do you think baseball will ever do something about the gold gloves.... I heard Bobby Abreu is getting one for the NL and even the philly newspapers are raising ??'s on it. Its become such a joke and really is making baseball look bad.... vandy125
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 1, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) It's a judgement of a player's overall defense. It's called a "Gold Glove" award because of Rawlings. Just a question. How involved in this is Rawlings? I read that the players and managers vote for this, but it seems like a popularity contest that bodes well for Rawlings. They are getting the marquee names associated with Rawlings rather than other players who are more deserving.
NorthSideSox72
As I posted in the other GG-related thread about Torii: Maybe if MLB wanted to make the awards a little more meaningful (that's a BIG if of course), they would grab a volunteer committee that was a subsection of the voters for the Hall of Fame (instead of the current players/coaches). Those HOF'ers are usually good at making much better calls on such things, year in and year out. You may see players not get in that some feel should, but you rarely see players go in that should not. Almost never, in fact. Just a thought.
