You won't hear that one from me.  This one is the fault of the French, and they've had it coming for a long, long time.

And I thank you. At least you have some common sense, even if we disagree on things. But I guaran-damn-tee you that somewhere in the media, George Bush will be at fault for this.

Well, you could probably find some way to make a link through either the war on terror or the war in Iraq to it, but that'd just be a stupid diversion. This is what happens when you treat a minority like sh*t for decades. Eventually, they lash out.

Aside from the headress deal have there been any peaceful demonstrations by these people to call attention to their situation?

According to media reports this violence has spread to Brussels and even into Germany. As for France itself the rioting is now pretty much a nationwide problem. Chirac better get a handle on this fast because he's going to have a full blown insurrection in his hands before much longer.

27 October: Teenagers Zyed Benna and Bouna Traore are electrocuted after climbing into an electrical

sub-station in the Paris suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois, in what locals say was an attempt to hide from police. The police deny this, but news of their deaths triggers riots in the area which is home to large African and Arab communities. Arsonists destroy 15 vehicles.

If you climb into an electrical substation there is a good chance you might get electrocuted. Then after said fools bake themselves the neighborhood riots. This is the same mentality that sue the McDonalds for the coffee being hot when they spill hot coffee in their laps.

If they are being treated so badly in France then let them go back where they came from.  Nobody forced those people to move there in the 1st place.  There is no excuse for this behavior whatsoever but the French......being the French.......are letting it spin out of control and tear the country apart.

They were kind of born there. Good logic, chief. The reports have been that the majority of the rioters are 2nd or 3rd generation Frenchmen, not FOB's like you assumed.

You're also entirely ignorant of the minoirty situation in Europe if you think the problem is limited to only France. Germany, with a huge Turkish population, is going to f***ing erupt soon if this keeps up. Same with Spain and Basque seperaists, same with the Balkans (even though they're usually just f***ed up), and many other countries. What would your grand solution to putting these rioters down? Militaristic force would only encourage more retaliation.

And yes, this is quite similar to the race riots in America. Peaceful protests? Did you not read a good deal of Detroit being burned down? Or Newark? Or Watts? All of those happened before MLK's death, insinuating that, just like this, it was a tinderbox waiting to happen.

You're right. I don't know a lot about the minority situation in countries aside from France and I dont recall saying it was only a problem in that one country.

As for the riots we're both right. There were riots both before and after MLK's assassination.

As for stopping the rioting thats going on in France right now they certainly shouldn't have waited this long to impose a curfew and I also believe that their equivalent of our National Guard should be deployed to affected areas if that hasn't been done so already and mass arrests of curfew violators should be done to get these people off the streets.

Unsurprisingly O'Reilly has beaten leftists to the punch on sounding like a complete moron about the riots. Calling it Karma for not pressuring Saddam and underming the US War effort, also saying that Hurricane Katrina is like a 'comic-book' compared to the riorts. Then mentions how, that's why we're boycotting France.

sigh...

I just watched his video and I thought his socialist rantings about Oil Company profits were bad but this takes the cake. I almost feel bad for saying the media would blame Bush when this clown is on here saying stuff like that. This is completely a separate issue from the war in Iraq and Chirac's illegal weapons sales to Hussein etc....etc...

Now I remember why I dont watch O'reilly that much anymore.

I admit, I judged the book by its cover.  I thought this thread was about the new Paris Hilton/Controlled Chaos video that's been circulating.

Finally, someone found those misplaced tapes I lost in front of the Enquirer offices.

France Says Extremists Are Enlisting Its Citizens

Police Assert Some Trained in Mideast Could Attack Paris

By John Ward Anderson

Washington Post Foreign Service

Wednesday, October 19, 2005; A15

PARIS -- French police investigating plans by a group of Islamic extremists to attack targets in Paris discovered last month that the group was recruiting French citizens to train in the Middle East and return home to carry out terrorist attacks, sources familiar with the investigation said.

One French official said the extremists were using a virtual "underground railroad" through Syria to spirit European and Middle Eastern citizens into and out of Iraq. A senior French law enforcement official, who declined to be quoted by name because he was speaking about classified information, said French citizens had undergone terrorist training at camps in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

"There's always been an enormous jihad zone to train people to fight in their country of origin," the official said. "We saw it Afghanistan, in Bosnia, in Kosovo, and now we're seeing it in Iraq."

What's new, he said, is that the French cell under investigation "is linked with networks in Iraq, right now, through an individual based in Syria. Now we're finding camps in Syria and Lebanon, and it's the same pattern, training in explosives and chemical weapons, which is an obsession of the jihadists."

.....]

Seems like they had planned for this, and maybe the kids getting themselves killed was just a convenient excuse to start with? France is doomed. They had better start bowing to their Muslim overlords now.

This was in the back of my mind all along, I just didn't have anything to back it up until now. Terrorists using Muslims already living in weak countries like France to plant an insurrection follows Al Queada's handbook almost to the letter. If this is the case then this could easily spread to neighboring countries.
