If the Sox lose Konerko

If the White Sox lose Konerko and decide to spend money elsewhere, where will the money go? I don't see any need to change the rotation or bullpen. I can live with Vizcaino and Marte being the duds in our pen after they both posted sub 4 ERA's last season. I don't see anyone to replace in the lineup except fill the vacancy at 1B. So the question is, why lose Pauly at all? I just think this team is built for the next few years and that losing Pauly to land other FA's isn't a good idea at all.

If you don't like the topic, you don't have to post in the thread....Just a thought.

But then we could be overrun by crappy threads, I'm not saying this is a crappy thread, but if people don't question the quality of threads, we run the risk of having 50 thread starts a day, all with no replies.

BTW, WTF, the WS was just a week ago. Why worry about what to do if Kong isn't signed?

Already?  Seriously?  These threads are coming up already?

Dear Soxtalk,

Thank you for answering my question. I am just as much of a White Sox fan as each and every one of you, I just don't post my insights here each and every day of the week. Does that mean that I should be treated like a common moron that's panicking and upset because I believe Konerko is leaving. I don't even know if Paul will be back or not. I cried when we finally won the World Series after so many years of buying season tickets. That's 26 seasons in a row that I've bought season tickets. I've devoted myself to this team since I was born years ago. And you treat me like this? Thank you for the trash talk. How about trying to be mature here. The only one who doesn't seem to be enjoying the World Series win is you. You're the only one who's mad here. I just asked a question. I love the Sox and they are always on my mind. I was just trying to see what other fans are thinking about in a possible scenario where we lose Pauly. I do not appreciate your brashness towards my topic. If you think I'm an idiot, you're sorely mistaken. I'm a White Sox fan. And I won't be posting here anymore because you don't seem to treat your own kind well around here. Goodbye.

If it makes up feel any better, Addy probably would have made the same comments had I started this topic and I have 15 posts per day. I don't think the fact that you don't post often on this board had much to do with his decision to make that post.

What else do you think we're meant to talk about in the off-season?

well i will say this........if we lose pauly we better some how pull something out of our hat because  he was the only threat that put real fear in pitchers eyes. 40 hr 100 is hard to replace and especially with carl's 20hr and 80 rbi's we will need power.    Griffey?

Funny how 40HR's/100RBI's suddenly looks a little more valuable than a mid-range BA/RISP eh?

your stats mean nothing to me. we need kong next season, bottom line.

If it means 5-70? HELL NO

Konerko's good...and he's grown on me. I love him. However, he's also grown on Arte Moreno and the entire Anaheim Angels team. They are a little bit more secure financially than I am.

Most experts thought the Sox needed Maggs and Caballo going into the season too(how can you lose that much power?!)...how'd that turn out?

Losing Konerko could be a blessing in disguise...not because Konerko's bad or that he's not valuable - he was probably the best offensive player for the Sox this year, and would be next year too. However, losing him opens the door for offensive flexibility, and the potential to go in multiple directions this offseason as far as adding offense is concerned. You can look to move Dye to 1B and add an OFer...be it Brian Giles, or Ken Griffey Jr, or whomever. You can look at add a 1Bman via trade(because other than Konerko, there's basically no one that's available in FA).

I'll throw a wild card out there for you if the Sox lose Konerko - how about Sean Casey?

Sean Casey won't cost you 5/70 either. Its not all about who we want on the team, there IS still the matter of paying a guy 12 million/year for sluggish starts every year, pisspoor speed, lukewarm situational hitting, etc. I want Pauly back here as much as anyone, but not by any means, or price, necessary.

Sean Casey has no power at a premium power position. You may as well sign Scott Hatteberg or throw Ross Gload at first base full-time. Money or not, Casey would be a horrible move. Casey will make $8.5 million next season anyways.
