Balta1701
I just figured that since the Senate yesterday passed roughly $35 billion in cuts to federal programs, including Medicaid, in order to fund $70 billion in tax cuts that are about to come, This guy deserved some note. Allan Glenn is a 20-year old writer and poet in North Carolina, afflicted with Cystic Fibrosis, who will die unless he gets a transplant he can't afford. After a thorough examination and consultation, the doctors agreed to take his case - citing an impressive 60% survival rate for individuals in his condition. But according to his health "coverage" that wasn't good enough. They denied payment, condemning him to certain death unless he can raise the money for the procedure (almost $400,000), himself. Proving that truth is stranger than fiction, the official denial claims a transplant threatens "poor outcome" and unnacceptable risk of death; a surreal argument given the alternative! Further appeals are unlikely to succeed, and legal options have been exhausted... "So it's death with no chance at life, or a chance at life with the risk of death." –Candice, a friend of Allan's who underwent the operation and survived to tell the tale. Friends and family have organized a last-ditch fundraising campaign on Allan's behalf, but he desperately needs both volunteers and donations to succeed. If you would like to help in any way, or make a donation towards his transplant, please do so by following the links on the left! Anything you can contribute, no matter how insignificant it might seem to you, is warmly and genuinely appreciated. Allan is working with the Children's Organ Transplant Association (COTA). COTA is a licensed, non-profit 501© charity created so that no child or young adult would be denied a life-saving operation due to financial constraints. Tax-deductible donations (in the form of checks or money orders payable to "COTA for Allan Glenn") can be sent to COTA (for Allan Glenn), 2501 Cota Drive, Bloomington, IN 47403. Donations by credit/debit card are also accepted (click the appropriate link). Please don't let the bureaucrats play God to protect their bottom line. Allan is a beloved son, fiancee and friend who doesn't deserve to die for lack of money. He was 20 years old, and is survived by his fiance and parents. Here is his page.
