Invoking religon into this isin't the greatest idea.  If there were liberals as we know em today around during the days of the Old Testament you'd want to put God on trial for war crimes.  Im not the biggest bible scholar out there but I know that in the Old Testament God did a whole lot of really nasty stuff to people who didn't worship him properly.  Stuff that makes stress positions, sleep deprivation and loud music pale in comparison.

Sodomizing people with light bulbs, on the other hand...

Eh, they did put God up on charges in Job as we all may remember. Anyone, anyone, anyone?

Needless to say the bastard walked.

I just thought it was an interesting article. And didnt' want to start a whole new thread. Just a little bit of food for thought.

Job is exactly what I was thinking of when you said that. He got messed up really bad for no other reason than to test his faith. Not to mention various stories of genocide that took place during that period.

Yeah, there's definitely some stuff in the Bible that, if taken literally, is more than enough to push people away from God. Which is why, I guess, I'm not a literalist.

But I thought Job was a good fun little example there--I mean, how much would I love to have a conversation with God about the injustices of life?
