p.s. this is coming from a guy who at the age of 5 had a King Kong poster gracing his wall and has loved the original film for 30 years now. Jackson has hit all of the right notes it looks like.

That was unreal.  Thanks for posting!

Were there dinosaurs in the original King Kong?

On the island, there is a stegosaurus that charges the rescue party. Kong battles a t-rex and a pterydatctyl.

In this version you also see Adrian Brody fighting giant insects. That is the famous lost scene from the original movie. Back when it was originally released in '33 there was a scene when the party fell from the log bridge, they landed in a cavern that was filled with giant spiders. The scene was too tough for the audiences of the day, so Cooper and co. cut it out. The scene has been considered "lost" since then and has been the dream discovery of many collectors. Jackson did an updated version for his film, and for the release of the original KONG he has recreated the scene using the original techniques and mixing in new techiniques. It is an additional feature on the disc and NOT included in the film though. But those who have seen it say that it is seemless and you can't tell where the original film and the newly shot footage fit together, unless you know otherwise.

Saw the trailer in front of Jarhead.  It looks so cool.  Jack Black is perfectly cast for the role IMHO.  It also has Tom Hanks kid Colin Hanks.

That's been my main complaint all along, is that Black is 100% against what Carl Denham was in the original.

I agree, despite the fact that I think Black is very talented.

I'mcautiously optimistic about the bew vrsion. If anybody can make it work then Peter jackson can.

This is supposed to be the most expensive movie ever made. They better hope it does well.

I don't think they have anything to worry about at all, it's B.O. take is going to be massive. We are talking about one of the most beloved stories ever, in th eform of one of the most beloved screen icons ever, in the hands of a director that loves the original more than anything, and at the top of his game and is proving to be one of the greatest directors ever. This film will be huge. I'm not so sure it's the most expensive ever, but it did go over budget, which surprised everybody.

it will be no.1 at the box office. Question is whether it will be a huge gross or not. Like if it's no.1 but if only $50 Million would that be considered a failure.

I can honestly say I've never seen the original King Kong, but that was the most impressive trailer I've ever seen.

Let's hope that this film will do it's job, and if you see it and enjoy it you will then decide to see the original. :pray

Saw the trailer in front of Jarhead.

So did I.

Speaking of Jarhead, what did you or anyone else who's seen it think? I thought it was great. I really enjoyed it. However, I think some of my friends I saw it with were disappointed b/c there wasn't as much fighting as they thought. Anyone else feel like that? I liked how it looked into the marines' lives, rather than only showing fighting like other war movies.

I haven't really shared my opinion on it but here I go.

Two facts before going into the movie:

1) I'm not or never will be a marine

2) I never read the book

Going into the movie I thought it was going to be in the anti-War vein of Full Metal Jacket and Apocalypse Now. Now, Jarhead certainly was similar in many ways to both movies but it really wasn't anti-War, and I don't think like many critics that it's merely a satisfactory War movie because of this. It's a tale of impatient people trying to wait patiently to do something important in their lives but the chance obviously never really comes. Many of the movie's clichés got to me, like the awkward end narration saying how we're still in the desert, yah, no s***. This attempt to be poignant kind of just annoyed me but I'm not sure how other people feel about it, so maybe it did work. The acting was 100%, top-notch quality, lol, all the lead actors were great and Chris Cooper, Lucas Black and Dennis Haysbert were all pleasant surprises. In the end I think this is a solid movie but certainly won't be any kind of War classic that will still be obsessed over 30 years from now. For a director like Sam Mendes I guess it's a small disapointment. I worried so much about how this movie would stand up to such a different movie like his Road to Perdition, but this was a goofy idea.

8/10

Well 'the highway of death' was a reality of the War. I mean this wasn't painting anybody really in a positive light but from a novice's eyes it seemed like a pretty fair picture of Desert Storm. Then again as I mentioned, I wasn't there and I'm not a Marine.

This trailer did wonders for me. I still am not sold on Black as Denham yet though. But the scene in the trailer when Ann looks at Kong, and he looks down slightly and then gives her a slight sideways glance, that little bit did wonders for me. He nailed an emotion of Kong that fans of the tale have been hoping he would hit.
