Garland for Drew?

Same goes for the possibility of being traded.

"It's a business," Garland said. "Trades and stuff like that happen. So you can't worry about that."

Garland is believed to be drawing interest from several teams, most notably St. Louis. One source said the Cardinals had inquired about the 23-year-old right-hander earlier this month.

Sox general manager Ken Williams wouldn't confirm or deny any talks.

A potential deal with the Cards would likely involve J.D. Drew, a talented 27-year-old outfielder who hit his third home run of the season Friday night against the Cubs.

Since hitting a career-high 27 home runs in 2001, Drew has been limited by knee and back injuries.

Drew has the potential to be a top-notch center fielder, and the Sox can't be satisfied with what they've been getting from Aaron Rowand and Willie Harris. Sox center fielders are hitting a combined .187 with no homers and 11 RBIs.

Joe Borchard, widely viewed as the center fielder of the future, is struggling at Triple-A Charlotte. He's batting .237 with three homers in 30 games

I'd do it

I'd definitely do that also. I've been watching drew since since he came up and when healthy he has the potential to be a great player and we could get that left handed power bat that we desperately need in our lineup :bringit

I don't even care if we trade Garland. All I want the Sox to do is just f***in win, and if we can achieve that by acquiring Drew than I'm all for it.

How much interest can they have in Garland to part with JD Drew? Guarenteed it wouldnt be straight up. KW would get shafted somehow. Are we sure it's not Buehrle for Drew?

Drew is in the same position as Garland. A HUGE disappointment for its current team. However, yes, the cards would want more than Garland for Drew.

Before the injury to Eli Morrero, I think the Cards would have done this deal. Drew has been hobbled by knee and back injuries the past two seasons, and he's 27. Garland is 23 and STILL has a lot of potential. This could be one of those trades that are good for both teams. Though, since the injury to Morrero, that leaves the Crads shorthanded in the OF.

Potential means nothing if he can not produce at the major league level. I know everyone likes to use the "He is only 23" excuse but, at some point he won't be 23 and probably still will not be doing what we like. I would be interested int his deal but I dunno. Our pitching is already less than desireable and losing Garland wouldn't make it any better. Especially after the way Mark pitched tonight.

If its that straight up, I'd do it in a heart beat, as long as we aren't losing Drew immediately.

The big worry is Drew's health, but he's a stud of a player and right now I think were all questioning Garland. Not saying that doesn't mean he'll pan out, but it sounds to me like a trade that would do both players good and lets be honest, Drew would be an awesome fit in this lineup both offensively and defensively.

The one question is then what with the pitching, do we go with Rauch (I won't complain) or do the Sox turn to someone like Finley?

Rauch or Stewart, either one, I believe could hold down the #5 slot in the rotation.  I'd make this deal, straight up.

Here's the question, what if they ask for more in return. In what case would it be too much?

To me its a fair deal straight up, anything more would be a tough unless it is a marginal prospect. I forgot all about Stewart (For some reason I always tend to leave him out; Mainly cause I'm not too high on him, but I hope I'm wrong).

Well, the Cards are also hurting in the pen. They might want to talk about a larger deal. Something that could include Koch, Marte, Gordon or Wunsch. We'd just have to see what the offer is and go from there. But, no, I wouldn't give anymore than JG for Drew, unless it's just some excess minor leaguer.

Well if it turned into a bigger deal they would definately want someone that could close (Maybe they would do JG and White for Drew) but more likely I would say it would be one of the better pitchers in the pen, which makes it tough cause I believe to compete you need a strong bullpen. White is expendable.

Another guy I'd love to pick up is Edgar Renteria. If we could include a deal involving Jose, JG, and a reliever for Renteria, Drew and then some type of pitcher then I would be alright, still depending.
