RME JICO
The Sox play Cleveland opening day at the Cell, so who will be the Opening Day Starter? B-Mac would be the most rested, then Count with 162 days off, Mark, Jon, and El Duque would have 159 days off, and Freddy would have the least rest at 158 days. I am going with Buehrle. nitetrain8601
Buehrle. And it will always be Buehrle unless he's injured or he's gone. BTW, I personally would like to see it be Count. Edited November 11, 2005 by nitetrain8601
Kalapse
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 06:14 PM) Buehrle. And it will always be Buehrle unless he's injured or he's gone. BTW, I personally would like to see it be Count. There really is no arguement, Buehrle is the face of this pitching staff and in many ways the face of the team. There is no other pitcher on this team I'd rather have starting opening day.
RME JICO
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 07:14 PM) Buehrle. And it will always be Buehrle unless he's injured or he's gone. It is hard to imagine him not getting 20 wins next year.
Whitesoxfan56
This isnt even a question, it is Buehrle no matter what
RME JICO
The Count did pitch Game 1 of the ALDS, ALCS, and WS. I know the end of the season dictated this slightly, but Ozzie could have easily went with Mark in Game 1 of the WS, but he stayed with Count. Just wondering if he would carry that over until next season?
Kalapse
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 10, 2005 -> 06:23 PM) The Count did pitch Game 1 of the ALDS, ALCS, and WS. I know the end of the season dictated this slightly, but Ozzie could have easily went with Mark in Game 1 of the WS, but he stayed with Count. Just wondering if he would carry that over until next season? The Count started the 1st game of every series because he was the best pitcher at that time and by starting game 1 he'd be able to pitch 2 or 3 times in the series if needed. The opening day starter doesn't necessarily have to be you "best" pitcher.
Yoda
It will definitely be Buehrle. He’s been getting the ball for Opening Day the last three years. Or is it 4? And after him, I would like for it to be Jose. The strategy that Ozzie had in the postseason with having Freddy as far away from the Cell was very clever. We all know how Freddy has struggled in his career at home. But since there are 162 games in a regular season, Freddy will have to pitch at the Cell at some point. Felix
Its Mark. There isn't really a question about it.
kevin57
MB for "tradition" sake. MB because he's the "work horse" of the staff (i.e., innings pitched)
RME JICO
Ok, So Mark seems to be the consensus Opening Day starter, but how do you guys see the rest of the staff getting laid out? Is it: Mark, Count, then Jon at home vs Cleveland then Freddy and B-Mac at KC? That would make Freddy Garcia the #4 starter. or do you see Ozzie leaving Freddy as the #3 and Jon as #4? (Notice how there is an assumption--I think correctly--that El Duque is no longer a starter)
WilliamTell
haha were some people just voting for Hernandez to be funny?
Rowand44
It's Mark, not much of a question there.
DonkeyKongerko
Injury is the only thing that would prevent Buehrle from starting Opening Day. If Jose has a decent spring, I expect him to start game 2.
AnthraxFan93
Todd Richie.. HE is coming Back! but I have to stay this is one of the worse polls ever, we all know its going to be Mark baring injury, Now if you had the poll as Who starts if Mark is injured, then my fellow sox fan, that is a poll. SSH2005
It's disturbing that orlando hernandez has more votes than three other pitchers. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Especially when he will be in the bullpen if he is still even on the team, even though I think he will be because we won't be able to dump his $4.5 million salary. YASNY
I don't think it's at all a given that Mark is the opening day pitcher. Ozzie has shown that he will do what he thinks is the best for club as a whole. If he thinks the starter should be Contreras, he'll start Contreras. santo=dorf
I voted Contreras just because he carried the team in Sept.
