Unless things change big time, (Which they could, we did just win the World Series) I dont see the Sox being stuck with these huge contracts. The one thing the Sox have never had to worry about in the offseason is trying to find someone to take on a huge contract we are trying to unload. While that also means we dont dish out the $$$, it can also be a blessing.

Like most have said, unless the Marlins pay a good amount of Delgados contract, I dont see the Sox paying a 36-37 year old 18 mil. Just not there ways.

16 Mil. Those 2 million a year make a big difference.

Marte's time in Chicago is up. Ozzie coming out and saying he was afraid to pitch Marte at home because the fans get on him so much is much like our Northside friend's problem with Hawkins. If Marte comes back, the fans will expect perfection out of him, and if they don't get it they will boo him every time he screws up. That is sad, but true. I can't envision him back with the club.

Wheres he gonna play?  Where is all the money going to come from.  He would be the highest paid player on the team by far.

He is going to play 1st or DH with Paulie playing 1st or DH. He is a lefthanded power bat that they needed all last year.

The money will come from not the subtractions of Carl Everett - 4 mil and Frank Thomas - 8 mil. That frees up 12 mil for the DH spot that they spent on last year. I am sure they can take on a bit of extra salary to fit Delgado in. Plus I am sure the Marlins will have to eat a few mil to unload him. He is not a 16 million dollar a year player.

Juggernaut, we need a lefthanded power bat as much, if not more, than we need a #2 hitter. I would concetrate on this first and then go out and get my #2 hitter.

Agree, its just not the case. Frankly its either Konerko or this plan of Delgado. There is no way we will do both, especially with the raises that our players are due. Its just not in the cards.

No kidding, I wonder how hard it is to do his job sometimes. :cheers

There's about 50 people a day that do it on this very site. They just don't have a microphone or get paid for it. I'll bet many of them even have better sources. :D

Heres Bruce Levines job

The White Sox have inquired about the availability of Alex Rodriguez as a possible replacement for joe Crede, they are concerned about his back for the upcoming season.

And let the message boards erupt.

I maybe crazy but am I the only here that thinks we could match any deal offered to Paulie and keep in Chicago along with making a trade for Delgado or Thome (to DH and play 1B on Paulie's off days) without increasing the projected payroll that much. I think that we could trade Marte and a few others to either of the Phillies or Marlins for one these guys and they would eat some of the contracts. Imagine 3batting third, Thome or Delgado then batting fourth Paulie...

No your not. The Sox could trade El Duque as well in a deal for Thome. That way, the Phills wouldn't eat so much cash on a deal. Paying a middle reliever $4, 5 mill doesn't make a lot of sense

I'm not sure about Delgado. The Marlins aren't going to pick up any of his contract, and there are rumors that Omar Minaya is desperate for him, which means the Marlins will probably get a great return.

Thome, on the other hand, is a possibility, depending on how much of his contract they eat and what players we give up. I have our payroll roughly around $67.5 million without addressing 1B and DH. If our payroll is $85 million, that leaves $17.5 million to fill those positions. I think if the Phillies took both Rowand and El Duque's salaries back in trade, plus took on a solid amount of his contract, then both Konerko and Thome could fit in our budget.
