VenomSox
QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) I do not believe for a second that McCarthy is being offered for anything. He said that was the asking price.
TLAK
QUOTE(VenomSox @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 06:41 PM) He said that was the asking price. Then allow me to impersonate Kenny Williams. NO
Balta1701
QUOTE(VenomSox @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) He said that was the asking price. Then Presumably KW would have responded by thanking the Marlins for Offering Cabrera.

He's dirt cheap and he will contribute for years to come.

SSH2005
Jason Stark said the 3 most aggressive teams in the Pierre hunt are Rangers, Cubs, and White Sox. Rangers- John Danks or Thomas Diamond Cubs- Felix Pie Sox- McCarthy or Chris Young <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would sooner trade Brian Anderson for Pierre than Chris Young, not that I'd want to trade either of them for Pierre. Chisoxfn
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 05:56 PM) I would sooner trade Brian Anderson for Pierre than Chris Young, not that I'd want to trade either of them for Pierre. I wouldn't deal Young for him, and I'd be hesitant to deal Anderson for him but if thats what Ozzie wants I'd have to live with it and hope they are right. Personally I'm happy standing pat and finding a platoon guy and maybe trying to find another good reliever.
SSH2005
Straight from Kenny Williams' mouth, he has absolutely no interest in Juan Pierre. I just heard him answering the Pierre question on the Score on the latest update. Kenny said that because of Brian Anderson and Jerry Owens, and even further down the line with Chris Young and Ryan Sweeney, the Sox have absolutely no interest in Juan Pierre. Kenny said that he hasn't even made a single call to the Marlins regarding Pierre. That's it folks, either Brian Anderson or Jerry Owens will be starting in our outfield next season. I suspect a big reason for Kenny coming out and stating this is because the price for Pierre is ridiculously high now with many teams interested in him. 40 pages, all for naught! Jimbo's Drinker
SSH, little hint about KW. He never ever ever tells you what he will do. But, if he does a stupid laugh at a question he will do that move.

But, if he does a stupid laugh at a question he will do that move. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know that but when you realize what the Marlins are asking for Pierre I can see why Kenny bowed out. The Marlins want one of the Rangers' top pitching prospects, either John Danks or Thomas Diamond, in return for Pierre: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...lb.cd7120f.html Two major league sources confirmed Monday that the Rangers remain significantly in the hunt for Marlins center fielder Juan Pierre, but the asking price is likely to be one of the Rangers' top young pitching prospects. Jimbo's Drinker
I for one do not want Pierre. His OBP is horrid and his defense is ok at best.

SSH2005
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/marlins/conte...notes_1206.html DALLAS — Expect center fielder Juan Pierre to be the next Marlins star to leave the team, possibly as soon as today. Pierre is being pursued by at least four teams, but the Chicago Cubs have made him their top priority of the winter meetings. After failing to sign free-agent shortstop Rafael Furcal, the Cubs are intrigued with the idea of Pierre as their leadoff hitter. The Cubs and Marlins planned to talk late Monday or today to discuss a proposal that likely would include pitching. Among the pitchers Chicago could offer are three right-handers with major-league experience — Sergio Mitre, Jerome Williams and Todd Wellemeyer — and minor-league right-hander Ricky Nolasco. The Texas Rangers also plan to talk to Florida today, with outfielder Laynce Nix as a possible offer. The Marlins also plan to meet this week with the agent for free agent Jeff Conine, who was a bench player for the Marlins last season. Conine could start in left field in 2006 and platoon at first base with Mike Jacobs.
Ricky3353
I really would not be that enamored with getting Pierre. The Sox have three top prospects in center and i'd like to see them get a chance. The real reason i dont want Pierre really is because of his weak arm. With one weak arm already in the outfield, Podsednik, i think it would be really counter-productive to add another. For a team that was so solid defensivly last year, i would really hate to see them make the transition to a team that is weak up the middle. I do think Iguchi should be moved down in the lineup and i realize that the only time we struggled was when Pods was hurt, but i dont want Pierre. tonyho7476
I'm hoping Owens goes crazy in spring training, gets the job, and can be our guy. Probably a long shot this year. Then you've got your number 2 hitter.
SSH2005
Kenny wasn't lying.
