jphat007
Beckett should be good for 3 or 4 DL visits this year.
Punch and Judy Garland
I think you guys are way wrong. A steal for the Sox. If this were a fantasy trade, all the other owners would vote it down. This is bulls*** and I'm really pissed about it. Its one thing when the Yanks and the Sawx buy talent via FA but when they buy it like this it upsets me more. f***

Just like all those moves last offseason for important pitchers were big important moves for the Yanks right? We saw how that worked out. Josh Beckett = Jaret Wright = Carl Pavano. All in the same vein. Edited November 22, 2005 by jphat007

They are not guaranteed to be good in the majors. And Hanley Ramirez's offensive numbers are hardly impressive. The Red Sox actually know that they are getting an ace-quality pitcher in Beckett if he can stay healthy. Also, Lowell could put up great numbers pulling cheap homers over the monster. They are using real money and real players. The Marlins are looking to cut their payroll in half, and just got off to a tremendous start. Do you realize how much money Mike Lowell makes for the stats he puts up? I don't care if they have to pay half of the money owed to Lowell... he was a killer to their payroll. And as far as Beckett goes... the guy is living off of his performance in the 2003 Playoffs. He is a bonehead made of glass that is very blister-prone. While I think H. Ramirez might need another year of atbats in AAA... I think that in 5 years from now, he will be the best player in this deal. Sanchez seems to have a bright future too. I think the Marlins will be happy with this deal 5 years from now (very happy). Edited November 22, 2005 by JDsDirtySox

I'm not sure Beckett is an "Ace" pitcher in the AL. Probably high 3s ERA, especially in Boston. It's not bad by any means, but not great either. 2. Lowell sucks. I seriously doubt Boston wants to keep him at all. Additionally. Look at Beckett's splits last year. Away .261 .316 .434 .750 4.31 ERA away last year Away three year splits .263 BAA 4.10 ERA away Ace - Not so much. His home park numbers help him out tremendously. It's not bad by any means, but not great either. Regardless, he's instantly the best starting pitcher in the Red Sox rotation now. 2. Lowell sucks. I seriously doubt Boston wants to keep him at all. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh boy, Lowell sucks now because he had one bad season. He must have caught Juan Pierre's disease. That must mean Konerko sucks because he was horrible in 2003. :rolly

SSH2005
.270 .339 .467 .806 $7.5 mil Lowell sucks <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Lowell puts up pretty good offensive numbers and plays good defense. I would praise Allah if Crede could put up an .806 OPS. He also won't be costing the Red Sox $7.5 million a year: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2232211 Florida would include cash in the trade to offset some of the $18 million owed to Lowell over the next two seasons. I agree with you... but not all teams have money to burn like the Red Sox and Yankees. The Marlins payroll will be 3 times less than the Red Sox. This is the business side of baseball. The Marlins have to make things work for their situation. I like the two prospects that they got, and they get another minor leaguer too. They couldn't find anyone dumb enough to take him at the deadline last year. They just found someone dumb enough, and you can rest assured that Boston's on the phone right now seeing if they can sucker in some other dumb team to take his suckiness and salary. I saw the Twins were interested. How awesome would that be. Just for fun. .236 .298 .360 .658 Nine million a year for that (little less as cash) LOL. Suckers. AnthraxFan93
Correct me if I am wrong and I am sure you guys will but can't Lowell Play 1b as well? Isn't Bill Mauer a FA, I don't see how this is a bad trade for Boston..They aquire a SP that they missed last year, a gold glove 3b who had a horriable year. For nobody right now.. They might be great can only wait and see.. My guess is they are with Fla track record.
