Balta1701
If this deal went through...it would probably make the Cubs a better team. But then again...how difficult is it to improve on a season when you finish behind the rapidly improving Brewers? Hopefully, John Hart is smart enough to rake the Cubs over the coals a little bit if they're going to get Soriano off of the Rangers along with other bats. He could have gotten a ton from a team like the Twinkies for Soriano during last season if he was willing to move him.

TLAK
Quick questions: Is Furcal done with his DUIs? He was convicted twice and I think he spent some time in jail. Will the contract include a 'keeper' to get him to the park on time like the Black Hawks tried with Theo Fluery? If they got Soriano and Todd Walker is not part of the deal, will that assure Walker a roster spot as a late inning 2B defensive replacement? If they got Soriano and Todd Walker is not part of the deal, will that assure Walker a roster spot as a late inning 2B defensive replacement? Walker might keep a spot as a pinch hitter/spot starter, but a defensive specialist? I'd doubt it. He's better defensively than he gets credit for, but I wouldn't label him a late-inning defensive guy. His range is adequate at best, and he is just OK at turning the DP. His hands are pretty good, but I'd say he's always around more for his bat than his glove.

southsider2k5
The Cubs have abou $30 million or so to spend in the worst FA market I can remember, and they are doing everything they can to spend it. White Sox Josh
I f***ing hate Bobby Howry. Worry about your own damn team and talk about trying to help them get to the World Series. Not Sox Fans. He did this crap last year to. And he won't have to be jealous of the Cubs' popularity any more. Howry played for the White Sox from 1998-2002 before he was dealt to the Boston Red Sox. "You'd look across town and the Cubs weren't winning, but they were selling out all the time," Howry said. Wait a minute -- the White Sox won the World Series this year. The Cubs have the longest drought in the Major Leagues, not winning a championship since 1908. Shouldn't he be backing his former South Side teammates? "It was nice to see them win it," Howry said of the White Sox. "I think it's good for the city. But even though they won the World Series -- that's great and they may get a few more fans and sell more tickets, but it's still a Cubs town. It's not going to change." Plus he should at least know what he is talking about. It is not the truth. This is neither a Cubs or Sox town. It's a Bears Town and it has been (except for the Bulls Championship days) and will be for a long time. The Critic
QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) There really is no pressure on the cubs...their stupid f***ing fans will still fill their crappy ballpark, even when the cubs are 10 games out in May. True enough, but if ( when ) the Sox start making annual runs at the playoffs, the tide will shift. There is some pressure on the Cubs to get *THERE*, especially since they came sooooooooooo clooooooooooooooose a couple years ago. The Sox winning it all raised the expectation level amongst KNOWLEDGABLE Cub fans ( yes, they exist.....YES, they DO......YES.....ENOUGH!!! ) The smart Cub fans I know ( YES, THEY DO.....STOP IT!!!! ) are not all that impressed with the Cubs' offseason thus far. Even if Furcal is their "big fish", they tell me that they'd rather see the Cubs deal Korey Patterson, acquire some starting pitching depth and increase team speed and defense ( SOUND FAMILIAR?? heh heh ). The Centennial approacheth, and no Cub fan I know wants to celebrate 100 Years Of Futility. ( Oooooooh, now THAT would make a nice t-shirt design..... )
witesoxfan
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) I f***ing hate Bobby Howry. Worry about your own damn team and talk about trying to help them get to the World Series. Not Sox Fans. He did this crap last year to. It is still a Cubs town...but the margin of Cubs to Sox fans is narrowing quickly. I also figure Chicago is the Cubs' to lose...if they continue to be a mediocre/disappointing team, continue to finish behind St. Louis, Houston, and an up and coming Milwaukee team, while the Sox continue to win and make playoff appearances and be in the thick of things year in and year out along with USCF continuing to look better year after year, you will see the tide shift. Perhaps more quickly than some think...and perhaps not nearly as quickly as some think. BTW...I personally don't consider Howry a "chump." Not only has the guy come back from arm surgery and become a very good reliever again, but I also remember him as a guy that's not afraid to ever throw inside. In 2002, his last year with the Sox, he hit Torii Hunter in the chest when Hunter appeared to be leaning in, and while I'm not necessarily for hitting players all the time(though I do feel some times call for it), that was a time where Howry thought Hunter was leaning out over the plate, and he made him pay.
