RME JICO
Toronto Sun - J.P. Ricciardi is looking for another high-ranking officer/free-agent, making a five-year, $55-million offer to outfielder Brian Giles. The 34-year-old left-handed hitter batted .301 this season with 15 homers and 83 RBIs in 158 games for the San Diego Padres. So does this push up the market for Paulie? http://www.realgmbaseball.com/src_wiretap_...offer_to_giles/
Balta1701
QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) So does this push up the market for Paulie? http://www.realgmbaseball.com/src_wiretap_...offer_to_giles/ The only things which push up the Market for PK are the GM's of the Angels and the Orioles. We're looking at a guy on a totally different level from Giles. Beat those 2 teams and we've got ourselves a lineup.
Gene Honda Civic
I don't think it effects the Konerko market directly. But it just further shows that the free agent market is well out of whack with what we expect.
jackie hayes
It looks like one team is doing most of the whacking though. Looks like Ricciardi's discovered that long-term, big money deals are undervalued by the market.
iWiN4PreP
good for toronto. Waste their money, kill their salary. And at the same time, make them a better team ina division as theirs. They get giles, and they have ryan, and lookout, they could give the red sox / yankees more of a challenge. Not saying theyd come out on top tho, just a nice challenge. Good for the blue jays to start doing something actually.
GoodAsGould
Their supposedly favorites to land Burnett too. While I think some of the contracts are rather stupid if all that happens they got to be contenders. Especially if they pry Overbay from the Brewers as well. Punch and Judy Garland
I love Giles and he is well worth 11 million next season and probably the one after that. Will he be worth 11 million (more if its backloaded) when he's 39? Doubt it. I think they sign Giles and then forgo Burnett to try to trade for Zits

Balta1701
QUOTE(bschmaranz @ Nov 29, 2005 -> 10:16 PM) Ricciardi = Drunkin Sailor In the division they're in, can you honestly blame them?
spataro51
hey good luck to the blue jays...........them signing all these players for obscene amounts of money are actually pretty good in a way because it takes away other teams especially in our division and of course the yanks and boston from getting them. anyone that is doing something to give the two teams in the east a run for it is ok in my book.
