That's fine and all, but it does us no good if we don't beat Toronto, and whoever comes after that. I'm as pessimistic now as I've ever been in the last 8 years. I mean, come on, how confident can you be when you go into a huge series, have your ace on the hill, and get blown out 18-3. Sorry, I just don't buy into the fluke argument, not at this point.

The most distressing part of the weekend sweep was that we actually were in the last 2 games until the very end, but couldn't find a way to win.

We were down 2-0 on Saturday, then Torii Hunter robbed Carlos of a game-tying 2-run HR, but even after that we put together 4 base hits and only scored 1 run. We ended up leaving the bases loaded, and that was pretty much it. Our lack of team speed was very evident, and it cost us a chance at winning that game.

Then, yesterday, we were up 2-1 in the 8th, and were unable to shut the door. Our defense really let us down, and like usual, we found a way to lose.

The differences between the Sox and Minnesota are vast, and were very clearly displayed this past weekend. Yes, they are on a hot streak, and we are about as cold as we can be, but that's no excuse -- you have to beat your rival teams when the opportunity presents itself, and the Sox simply failed. We could have had 2 out of 3, but instead walk away with our tails between our legs. This series vs. Toronto is huge -- we're either going to rebound, or fall further out of contention.

They have a brutal stretch coming up.  They go out to Oakland and Seattle for 3 each, then they have the A's and M's come to Minneapolis for 3 each.

It's kind of sad we have to depend on other teams to beat Minnesota for us. Either way we have to get the job done.

The West wasnt that much of a problem for them last year. They were 19-17 against West, while we were 15-21. Looks like the East was a bigger problem for the Twinkies. 15-17 last year, we were 18-14.

That was last year, this is this year.

The Twins were like 4-2 against the Yankees in 2001....and have since lost 13 straight in two years.

Who's to say it will be the same for the Twins against the A's and M's this year?

Then by your "this year is this year" and "what happened in the past doesn't matter" theory, the Sox don't have much hope do they? We're 2-4 against the Royals and 2-4 against the Twins. Our offense is 12th in the AL, we've got our RF playing CF, our SS and 3B are hitting under .250, a non-roster invitee to spring training leads our team in wins, and our ace pitcher has "lost confidence" in himself. We win close games about as often as the Bad News Bears, and our bullpen has been nothing if not inconsistent.

Should be a great next 4 1/2 months

You could look at it that way, yes.

I personally don't, because it is quite obvious that this offense is underachieving. When you play different teams, you could play better or play worse, or they could play better or play worse. For all we care, we could be 10 games out by June. Who the hell knows? That's why they play the games.
