DBAHO
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 02:54 PM) When Morneau figures out how to hit like a major leaguer and not like a reincarnation of Joe Borchard then give us a jingle on their chances. Over/Under on number of times Mauer is on the DL with his knees. Morneau's going to be very interesting to watch next season, and then there's the issue of him and Torii Hunter in the clubhouse (if you remember them going at it late last season). Either way, they need him to step up in a big way. But their rotation will be better next season with the addition of Liriano and or Baker for Mays and or Lohse (if he's traded). DBAHO
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 12:30 PM) Ahh D-Backs. Good call. Makes a lot of sense Yeah, of course there's the issue of the D-Backs payroll, they've got to get down to 60M (were at about 67M for 2005, IIRC.). If they trade Glaus, that opens up some room right there. With Lo - Duca making $7M, most of that will get taken up though, but they've got Vazquez to deal as well, so that'll help. With them losing Stinnett as well to the Yanks, they do need a veteran catcher, as here's what they posted; Stinnett - .248/.317/.419 Hill - .218/.308/.282 Snyder - .202/.297/.

There was no mention of the players going the other way. Even without including the team's top prospects, Arizona has no shortage of inexpensive, major league ready players it can part with for Lo Duca. Included in that list are Greg Aquino, Alex Cintron, Chris Snyder, Scott Hairston, Luis Terrero and Brian Bruney. YASNY
AO is right about one thing. Do not count out the Twins. This year could have been the beginning of tailspin, or they could rebound and be right in the thick of it next year. I'm betting on the latter. DBAHO
QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 09:04 PM) AO is right about one thing. Do not count out the Twins. This year could have been the beginning of tailspin, or they could rebound and be right in the thick of it next year. I'm betting on the latter. No way should anyone count them out in 2006, depending on their acquisitions etc. With Liriano joining the rotation, that should be better, and if they sign 2 more good hitters (1 to replace Jones), their offense should be better as well. But we've earned the right to go into 2006 as the favorites (even though the media is predicting a Tribe World Series Win in 2006).
timotime
If there was a color halfway between green and black, I'd use it. I mean, this is a guy that plays Twins baseball, and we all know how hard that spanked us from 2001 - 2004. This is still a team that has Johan Santana, a bunch of no-names who turn into superstars against us, and, of course, their dreaded minor league system, which will invariably produce a new generation of Sox killers as it does every damn season. Hopefully we luck out again and they get injured or come off to a bad start, but never, ever count out the Twins. The Indians might be the media darlings, but the Twins are still the team that gives me nightmares. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> dude during the playoffs, you were the biggest b****er and complainer. how many times did you say the sox would lose the next game...and how many times were you completely wrong?? shutup, man. Punch and Judy Garland
I'd take Aquino if I were the Marlins. He might be able to close if healthy. Lohse ends up in Philly maybe? Where doe she go? The Giants? Not old enough?

KevHead0881
For what its worth, Buster Olney had this to say in his blog on ESPN.com... • Luis Castillo wanted to stay with the Marlins. The Twins think he'll fill a big hole. This deal surprises me, from Minnesota's point of view: They need a banger in their lineup, and while Castillo can turn a double play and he's a pesty hitter, he's hardly a dynamic offensive force, and some teams think he's a major injury risk because of a chronic hip issue. And now he's moving to the turf in Minnesota. He would have made sense, say, for the Rangers, who have a powerful lineup in place and want better defense at second. But for the Twins, he wouldn't seem to be much of a difference-maker. We'll see. Minnesota's next big move might be for Frank Thomas; Mike Piazza would be another guy who would fit. I still think its a good deal for the Twins, but he makes some good points.
