Nomar Garciaparra

Nomar is probably not an option and here's why:

Garciaparra's value for now is seen in the $5 million range, but that could soar based on a team's need, which is why Tellem is thought to be willfully delaying a decision, perhaps until January. Already, Tellem has felt bold enough to tell the Yankees he is not interested in a deal shorter than four years.

The Indians met with Nomar Garciaparra's representatives on Sunday night.

There seems to be enough interest in Garciaparra now that he might get a multiyear deal, especially with the Pirates involved and knowing they'd have to overpay to have a chance. The Indians see Nomar as a potential right fielder. Dec. 5 - 4:59 am et

I suppose it depends how badly he wants to play for a contender.

Actually if I'm a team like Arizona that needs a stopgap solution for a season at SS, I'm trying to see if Nomar's going to bite, but I would doubt it. But he could go all Juan Gonzalez over the Indians then couldn't he. :D

This is just laughable to me. How can this be? Nomar tore his groin muscle, off the bone, merely running out of the batters box next year. He never played OF in the majors(that I know of), and now the Indians want to stick him in probably the toughest of the three outfield positions? Thats ludicrous. I would think they would be better off with their rotation of Casey Blake and Ben Broussard in right field over Nomar in right field. But what do i know.

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 05:14 PM)
That would be a terrific sign for the Pirates. They need bats and he gives them upside in their offense and would give them a guy who can generate buzz and sell tickets

Agreed. He would be just the thing they need in Pittsburgh to spark attention. But if he signs with Cleveland, it's hit or miss. Oh, and CF is by far the toughest outfield position.
