How is it any different then having a couple of all-star games or Winter League? It's not like these guys will be going 9 innings per outing and the only ones pitching. In fact, I will venture to say that the ones playing in the WBC have an advantage when it comes to the regular season since they'll have more of a rhythm while many are still trying to find their's. I think the WBC is a great idea. If the White Sox weren't coming off of a World Series, I bet there wouldn't be as many complainers. If an injury occurs, then an injury occurs. There's no way you can 100% prevent an injury. Whether someone is playing a game at the park with their kids or playing against a National team. But I'd still rather watch Spring Training games. I'm sorry, but I'll have absolutely zero emotional attachment to any of these games. I'll be interested in watching our guys play, but thats about it. At least in Spring Training, we get to watch the team we know and love. You just never know what can happen so you really can't question the WBC. Same as the basketball world championships. It's not in our hands. Get over it. Like I said in the Freddy G thread, any player would be honored to play for their country. If the get injured, sorry. Whose to say they wouldn't get injured in Spring Training. Whose to say they dont fall down the steps at their home and break an arm. You just never know, it's a moot point for anyone to argue. Like Greasy said, congrats to Tad, Freddy, and Mark. The problem I have with this is that these players signed a countract to play with an MLB team. If an NFL player played for the XFL (I know it doesn't exist anymore) and it ended his career, he is screwed. While the XFL or arena football at least pays money, what does WBC get you besides a longer season? A lot of people can lose there job or money if they get injured doing something not part of there job. It is a bad proposition. ... But that's just my opinion. If it happens in Spring Training, at least it happened on their watch. These guys are paid a s*** load of money by their organizations, and if one of them gets hurt performing an activity which they are not paid to do, the organization has the right to be pissed about it. Thats why you'll hear about clauses in contracts that give teams the ability to void contracts if they get hurt during extra-curricular activities (see Jay Williams and Kellen Winslow Jr.). Playing in these games is a definite risk for these players. And if one player who is an integral part of a major league roster gets hurt, expect a major backlash. dmbjeff
it dosent even have to be a white sox player getting injured to make this worthless, any player at all who is getting paid by a mlb club and gets injured just isnt worth it.....and its all about who is cutting the checks, if i were an owner, i wouldnt want my players playing in this

COuld you imagine how much Steinbrenner would b**** if a Yankee got hurt. Any team (the CUBS0 would use that injury as an excuse the whole year. In the case of the Cubs, they would name a curse after it.

Dude, they are representing their country in a tournament. This is the greatest honor an athlete can achieve. And you cant compare the XFL with the WBC because the XFL was actually a league. It would be like comparing the NFL to the CFL. The best comparison is with the World Baseketball Championships. The player has the right to choose and after just winning a world series, they have a little leeway. Personlly, I have no problem with it. Of course, I would be pissed if they got hurt but I would be pissed if they got hurt in ST too. It's moot IMO. But, to each his own. There is no right answer or choice. jphat007
CC is pitching for Cleveland. Silva and Santana for MInny. I'm sure there will be more. It's not a big deal to me. There will be so many good pitchers that I doubt starters will be going more than even 4 or 5 innings.
