What do you think...

about this scenario. Assuming Willie Harris is hurt for an extended period of time, or simply unable to produce this year...what would you guys think about adding Ricky Henderson to our team. He may not be able to man CF anymore, but if Maggs can play there, Ricky can certainly handle RF. I know he's 44 years old, and I know he has a poor clubhouse rep (although I'm not sure I believe it), but I think he could do some great things for our team. There isn't a better competitor in the game, and the work and determination that he's showing to still be doing things at his age might really have an affect on some of our young guys. He's tearing up the Independant League he's playing in right now and I think that by the middle of the year he's gonna get a shot with some big league team. We need help on the bases BADLY...and who better to get it from than the master of OBP himself. Just a thought...what do you guys think?

Couldn't do any worse than Dorn or Harris. I was watching ESPN last night and they did a story on Ricky..... who is playing with a minor league team in NJ. He still wants to play at the major league level. According to this EPSN story, Henderson's OB% was higher than Eckstein, Soriano, and a number of other lead-off men in the league. His teammates in NJ even said that his perceived clubhouse demeanor is a bad rap..... he always has time to help the players and is accessible. At this point, I'd try anything and the thought of the Sox adding Henderson crossed my mind while watching this ESPN piece.

It was right after I watched that piece from ESPN that I posted this last night...the more I think about it, the better I like the idea.

I've always been a Rickey Henderson fan. I think he could be a great teacher if he's willing to and if thats the case I'd have no probably signing him up. Play him on ocassion and you have a great guy to teach Jimenez and Harris on the art of leading off, base stealing, etc. Right now the thing I regret most about the Sox is that I wish they had more speed and played better defense as well as had a more balanced lineup (lefty righty). I still believe the talent is there. The team may be a move or two away (in terms of changing the balance, etc but I think we'll see the team bloom). I can only hope Williams doesn't give up everyone and that he is willing to make a move late in May or even now to get things fixed.

i think he has a date in his mind in regards to Manuel as well as some potentail moves in mind.

What does Ricky Henderson say about Ricky Henderson coming to the Sox? I'm wondering if Ricky would say that Ricky would like to catch on with someone with a better chance at post season glory. Now Texsox would applaud having Ricky ~if~ he was signed to a contract without any guarantees. What Texsox means is can the Sox dump Ricky the minute he becomes a liability? Texsox wouldn't want a money issue to cause any more problems. Texsox is thinking if Ricky loves baseball as much as Ricky says Ricky loves baseball Ricky may be a better clubhouse influence than a lot of guys that Texsox sees on this team. Dam I'm tired trying to write this way. Texsox doesn't know how Ricky does it.
