TLAK
John, Quirk jump into Sox's radio mix By Phil Rogers Tribune baseball reporter December 6, 2005, 11:21 PM CST DALLAS -- An announcement could be made as soon as Friday on the White Sox's radio job, and John Rooney's vacancy could be filled by one of two surprise candidates who haven't gotten much press in the process. According to one source, the front-runners have become Tommy John, the 288-game winner who works for the Charlotte Knights, the White Sox's Triple-A affiliate, and former big-league catcher and coach Jamie Quirk. John, who played for the White Sox from 1965 through '71, has eight years' experience as a TV analyst. Quirk also played with the White Sox, albeit for only three games in 1984. I enjoyed Tommy John when he was doing network just after he retired. He would be a good fit. Never heard Jamie Quirk, so I have no opinion. That neither of these guys are named North is great news. Harry Chappas
Tommy John is a real solid pick-up. I thought he and Hawk would work well together.
HuskyCaucasian
Thank GOD the Mike North talk is over. Now we just need to get him off the Scores Sox show.
fathom
I just talked to someone very familiar with Tommy John's broadcasting, and while he said he's nothing special as a broadcaster, he does have great stories to tell and is a nice guy. Now we just need to get him off the Scores Sox show. HOORAY for that!! I've never heard Tommy John announce but he always has been a real class guy and I agree this may be a real good choice. Welcome back to the Southside, Tommy!

southsider2k5
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) We could all wear slings and have a "Tommy John" day! Except we should make it during the Cubs/Sox series for Carrie Woods's sake.
Dick Allen
Tommy isn't the greatest broadcaster in the world, but the Score is trying to fill this position on the cheap, so he may be the best they can do.
Harry Chappas
Did he play with Cooper at all?? He may be more than just a broadcaster if they have any type of relationship. These guys watch every game and if they could add a little something or see something because they are friendly with a coaching staff, this could be a bonus. Dick Allen
Another ironic fact.......Tommy John was traded for Dick Allen, a trade Roland Hemond has said saved the franchise.

kevin57
It would be cool having Tommy John, a Sox legend, in the booth. Because he would be the analyst, I'd be more interested in how well he analyzes the game, rather than whether he's spastically energized during games.
