Winning Ugly
Unless KW pulls off another trade, with Myers now set to become a Yankee, here are the only 4 FA options: Alan Embree Buddy Groom Wilson Alvarez Chris Hammond Hammond's going to be 40 in January, though he had a 5-1 record with a 1.11 WHIP in 55 games for the Pads (in garbage time mainly), Groom is already 40 and only pitched in 23 games last season (for good reasons - he stunk even with the D'Backs), Alvarez only appeared in 21 games last season due to injuries (35 years old). Embree is also 35 but had an era over 7.00 for both Boston and NY. Which all means KW needs to make a trade, and fast.

White Sox Josh
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:40 PM) I would not mind getting Hammond. Hammond would be a great signing. He can pitch to both lefties and righties.
Balta1701
QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:38 PM) Kelly Wunsch? He was actually doing a decent job out of the bullpen for the Dodgers last year... whitesoxin'
How many lefties does the successful Angels bullpen have? Oh yeah, that's right. WHO CARES! Good righties >>>>>>> Lefty "specialists".
Wealz
I seem to recall reading that a pretty good lefty from Japan was on the free-agent market too, but I can't verify it anywhere on the web. Any help would be appreciated.
supernuke
Since we will likely be carrying 12 pitchers I think we will probably make a minor trade for a young lefty with untapped potential to replace Marte. Kinda the same way we brought in Marte. We have to have faith in the scouting dept. now.
maggsmaggs
Hammond would be the best of them, but he had a 3.84 ERA in the NL and a pitcher's park. The Sox would be wise to trade for someone or let Munoz be it.

How about Ron Villone? Opinions? He is owed 2 million next year. It couldn't take much to get this guy. Mariners and Yanks are interested. santo=dorf
Why not just sign a s***ty left handed starter?
whitesoxfan101
The Marlins want to dump Villone, but he's a Boras agent I believe somebody mentioned earlier...... I don't get why we need a 2nd lefty so bad. Cotts is STELLAR and like it's been mentioned, the Angels had ZERO lefties last year and that worked out pretty well. beck72
My guess is the sox would try to trade for a LOGGY, someone who has been tough vs. lefties, maybe has 1, 2 yrs experience. The FA's available will be overpriced and not very appealing

They said his curve was equivalent to Zito's so maybe they should give him another shot.
3 BeWareTheNewSox 5
I guess the best move is to trade for Villone or take care of it in house, but I don't think it's as big a deal as some think. I mean, we're not replacing a lefty specialist because we never had one to begin with, both Marte and Cotts fare better against righties anyways. I think Munoz would be good, but if Kenny can get Villone on the cheap (would you be willing to part with Harris or Borchard for him? The Marlins are already overstacked with pitching prospects), then I say go for it
