I would think Fields or Schurenstein would get the nod at 3rd.  I don't think Fields has shown enough to start at AAA, BHAM, what do you think?

Right now I have him at AA but he is still not a lock yet I think the Rule 5 pick of 3b Tim Hummel all but assures Josh of a return trip. I would like Josh to come back to work on his Defense, Mostly his footwork that is where he commits 80% of his errors that is why I think he can still become a solid 3rd baseman because his weaknesses can be corrected he was starting down that road at the end of last year, He has such a cannon that he can make great plays look routine another note Josh also just completed his first full year of pro ball and he improved greatly the 2nd half of last season.

If Hummel was chosen in the AAA portion of the Rule-5, shouldn't that mean that he has to stay at AAA for the whole season? (I have no clue how the minor league portion of the Rule 5 works)

I agree, that Schnur will be the 3B at Bham. Hummel's gonna end up at 2B in Charlotte.

There are no roster requirements for players taken in the AAA or AA phase of the Rule 5 Draft.

From whats been hinted, it sounds as if Fields is going to start the season in AAA, which means Schnur will be at 3rd in AA.

Yeah Dave Wilder in a recent article said that they thought Fields had done enough to start 2006 in Charlotte.Fields should at least hit around what he hit in B-Ham, he just really needs to work on that plate discipline.

As for Schnurstein, if he can improve defensively, I think he'll suprise some people, but I know Jason and I rate him a little higher than others (but we have our favorite prospects now don't we).

That's the scariest part of it all. There are no clear starters for Birmingham beyond these two. And it alo means that Liotta's time in W-S is all he's getting at the High-A level. Luckily, B'Ham is a pitcher's park, so I doubt that he will be shell shocked by going from low-A to AA in 4 months of season.

I think that Lance Broadway goes to AA if he shows anything in spring. Birmingham is going to be hard up for starters otherwise. I would guess Wes Whisler is another possibility, but he was so bad at W-S last year, that it's tough to see why he would warrant a promotion.

But in any case, I think that B'ham will have 1-2 non-prospects as starters.

I don't think that Josh Fields has done what he needs to do to get promoted to Charlotte, but I can see promoting him to let him hit in a pitcher's park and to test him against slightly better competition. But I also wouldn't be surprised to see him in Birmingham by July.

Off subject, Chris Young in Charlotte = sick #'s.

I am thinking Chris could hit anywhere between 33 and 37 homeruns and here is why:

1st. Young's first 2 weeks in AA was a learning curve because of his jump from low A ball, Kannapolis.

2nd Young missed 2 weeks of game time in July because of hip injury and it took an extra week to get his swing back.

3rd Young hit 26 homeruns in the toughest hitting park in the Minor Leagues @ Hoover Met

4th Young will hit in the bandbox of Knights Stadium

QUOTE(daa84 @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 01:19 AM)
i can tell you for a fact that paul moviel will be on the AA birmingham roster....i talked to his brother today, they told him he would start at AA. im not sure whether it will be in teh pen or as a starter

I can tell you for a fact that while Paul Moviel may or may not start at Birmingham, his brother doesn't have a clue where he is going to start the season. First of all, he hasn't pitched above Rookie ball and secondly they don't tell players where they will be the next year because too many things change.

Don't believe me? Ask Mr. Bullard.

It is possible his brother misunderstood and that he may be on the Birmingham roster right now, but that does not translate to him starting in Birmingham. Right now, minor league affiliate rosters are paper rosters and that's it. The Major League roster is 40 players, so that automatically means 15 players will be in the Minors, effectively pushing players from Charlotte's roster down to Birmingham and players on Birmingham's roster down to Winston-Salem or even lower. Off-season free agent (minor league) signings affect roster distribution as well.

My money is that he is nowhere near Birmingham at the start of the season, but stranger things have happened.

I also tend to agree from Great Falls to Birmingham in the off season is quite a jump I can't say I have seen that kind of jump by a pitcher but who knows with a bullpen that is so unsettled it could happen

Yeah I understand I am not disagreeing with you or Paul's brother either. My thinking is he is most likely listed on the Barons roster but when the offical roster's come out 15 players come from Chicago down to Charlotte then the trickle down starts. I am thinking Paul because of his numbers will be starting in Winston-Salem or Kannapolis.
