SoxFan1
Not really help but I have some questions. Number 1 - I'm running a virus scan and just went over 300,000 files. Is this normal? Number 2 - How the hell do I get rid of unneeded s***?
Gene Honda Civic
You should click on more ads for free porn. Those usually clean up your computer real good. Sorta like a forest fire enriching the soil for next century's aspens.
SoxFan1
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 02:33 AM) You should click on more ads for free porn. So you're saying I should click all the "Daisy Does Dallas" and "Have Sex Tonight" ads?
DonkeyKongerko
Number 1 - Yes, if you have 300,000 files on your computer. Number 2 - Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove Programs. The Recycle Bin is also handy here for those pesky, hard to remove files.

SoxFan1
What exactly does disk defragmentation do? ("defragment" is not an acceptable answer)
FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:22 PM) What exactly does disk defragmentation do? ("defragment" is not an acceptable answer) Then you are out of luck. Defragmentation cleans up your drive by clearing out old data that doesn't really get erased when you delete files. The references to that data are deleted but the data is not scrubbed until you overwrite it with new data or get it off of your drive by defragmenting the drive. All the old orphaned data is scrubbed and your drive blocks reallocated ro make the freed up space useable.

sox4lifeinPA
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) What exactly does disk defragmentation do? ("defragment" is not an acceptable answer) reorganizes the clusters in your hard drive. When your computer adds or deletes information from the HD, it's not a clean and organized thing like parking cars in a parking lot. Eventually things get messy and congested and reorganizing things speeds up the recall of programs and files.

So are there any other ways to get my computer to work faster? memory upgrade. remove all the programs from your start up menu. defrag. purge all temp files. buy a new computer. run adaware program. that's a short list. There are some solid suggestions here... also make sure you are clean on adware/spyware/viruses. Also you could go through and delete any games/programs that you haven't used for a year or so. sox4lifeinPA
you also may want to try singing this song to your computer: See the sunlight through the pine Taste the warm of winter wine Dream of softly falling snow Winter skol, Aspenglow As the winter days unfold Hearts grow warmer with the cold Memories that can't grow old Winter skol, aspenglow. Aspen is the life to live See how much there is to give See how strongly you believe See how much you may receive See the sunlight through the pine Taste the warm of winter wine Dream of softly falling snow Winter skol, Aspenglow As the winter days unfold Hearts grow warmer with the cold, Memories that can't grow old Winter skol, Aspenglow....Aspenglow. Heads22
There goes my theory about Macs. Running Virex (free thru ISU) and it's run into 2 trojans.
southsideirish71
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) There goes my theory about Macs. Running Virex (free thru ISU) and it's run into 2 trojans. No system is secure out of the box. But it also doesnt help that you are at school. Universities are open warefare from a malware/security point.
FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) There goes my theory about Macs. Running Virex (free thru ISU) and it's run into 2 trojans. But are they really trojans that can activate and cause trouble on the mac or are they PC executables that the Virex program happens to note are there but are not endangering your computer? SoxFan1
Well, I am currently defragmenting the HD and now I am going to go through and remove some unused programs. Then I am going to run an Acronis PC Leanup and then run another Norton Antivirus scan. Then I'm going to run a disk cleanup.
Heads22
Regardless, nothing's gone wrong and Mac's are still pretty tough sumb****es.
Heads22
One had to do with ASCII in IE (don't use) and the other was a "Generic Downloader". Just finished and it had those two. Not too bad, I suppose.
