sox4lifeinPA
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 03:55 PM) No system is secure out of the box. But it also doesnt help that you are at school. Universities are open warefare from a malware/security point. all that casual computer sex. you'd think trojans were a good thing??? FlaSoxxJim
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:58 PM) Well, I am currently defragmenting the HD and now I am going to go through and remove some unused programs. Then I am going to run an Acronis PC Leanup and then run another Norton Antivirus scan. Then I'm going to run a disk cleanup. Just for fun you should unplug the computer half-way through the defrag and see what happens.

Or, you can open the command prompt and type "c:/*del*" That should work. Edited December 13, 2005 by SoxFan1
SoxFan1
Another question....when I defragment my computer, do files get moved? For instance if I have a seperate music folder or something of that sort, can they be moved to a different directory/folder/place?

farmteam
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) There goes my theory about Macs. Running Virex (free thru ISU) and it's run into 2 trojans. That's it? You're at college and you can only find two trojans? I'm disappointed. EDIT: I see someone beat me to a trojan joke. Ah, well. SoxFan1
I have now decided to also get a memory upgrade from 512 Mb to 1.5 GB by adding a 1 GB PC2100 DDR DIMM Memory Chip so, yeah.
DonkeyKongerko
The RAM upgrade is probably your best bet. If you're running Windows XP you probably have an NTFS filesystem so defragging won't have a huge effect anyways. Also is PC2100 the speed of your existing RAM in the system? If it's slower, then that's not the speed you want. Finally, there used to be this site by Blackviper which listed a ton of services XP runs by default that you can turn off safely. That site is gone but thankfully the same information is mirrored here. This should also free up a good chunk of RAM.

The PC2100 is just the spec of the ram that applied to different motherboards.
