Rowand44
Adding that 8 mill is absolutely huge so that makes things a lot better. You definitely have to wait and see now to see what other things happen cause this could have a trickle down effect. Whether you like the trade or not I can't believe anyone would say they lost faith in KW after this move, especially when Vazquez hasn't even taken the field for us and Young hasn't played above AA ball. If Coop and AJ(don't forget how aj can help pitchers) can do there thing we could have 3 years of a younger Jose Contreras, just think about that for a little while. Overall, I'm torn on the deal a little bit cause I want to see what else happens but I got complete faith in Kenny.
RME JICO
ESPN already has a poll up about the trade: http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation...g?event_id=1920 and the two most obvious questions: 1) Which team do you feel got the better deal? 69.3% White Sox 30.7% Diamondbacks 5) Do you think the White Sox are better now than they were at the end of the World Series? 87.0% Yes 13.0% No
Harry Chappas
Imagine how deep we would be and the potential trade we could pull off if we still had that Webster fellow (not the midget from the Alex Karris show either) in centerfield. Come on. For every John Smoltz there are a hundred Scott Ruffcorn's. I will say this I trust Dave Wilder and Kenny Williams to understand their farm system. Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) We overpaid... again. This seems to be a thing about this offseason. We are getting good players, but overpaying massively. Oh come on now. Too funny.
rcpweiner
QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 01:12 PM) Chris Young for Javier Vazquez is one sided enough. We have 5 starters without Vazquez, and we throw in our best prospect for a 6th. Then, we threw in two other pitchers. It doesn't make sense to me unless Garland is already being dealt elsewhere. Plus, Vazquez is not that good of a groundball pitcher.. the balls will be flying out of US Cellular Field. No, the biggest thing we gave up for Thome is Gio and Haigwood, our best lefty pitching prospects. And what does it matter if he's a future HOF? We are talking about how he will do next year, not how his career has been. You, sir, are retarded. Do you honestly think we'd be better off without making either of those deals? Meaning that, first off, we pretty much lose Konerko to the Angels because he doesn't get the chance to play with his idol. Thusly, our best hitter is Carl Everett (if we sign him) and maybe Frank (if he's healthy, which is a bigger risk than Thome). And instead of Javy as currently our number 5 pitcher (giving the Sox the best rotation in baseball), we throw McCarthy out to the wolves. And while he has shown he should be able to handle it, Jon Rauch and Danny Wright were can't-miss prospects as well. Same thing with Joe Borchard. A prospect is just that: a prospect. If the game was about winning Triple-A championships, then I'd be upset. But it's not. It's about putting together the best team in the majors. And since the Sox have a unique window of opportunity right now to go on a nice run, it's worth risking the POSSIBILITY of these guys being future stars in order to get proven talent. Winning Now = More Attendance = More Money = Bigger Budget = More Free Agents Signing Here = Less Need For Minor League Projects = Winning More

Getting to the playoffs, what, the past how many years in a row? That's what they've done lately. Look. Right now we're sitting pretty with a championship and all. But we're not even NEAR the Yankees class yet. We're on our way (especially with this lastest flurry of trades), but we need a few more playoffs in a row to even be considered in the top-tier of baseball teams. If winning breeds chemistry than why aren't the Yankee's the closest team in the clubhouse? I'll tell you why. They bring in big name players and coaches expecting them to be able to coexist with their ginormous ego's. You're right, the White Sox are far from the Yankee's "class." Far higher. RockRaines
your sig is a little against regs isnt it? BTW, we are never going to be the yankees, KW brought in thome who is a good guy, and fits the clubhouse mold. He is keeping the backbone of the team, he is making moves to LOWER payroll in the future, not double it. We are far from being a large market team, in attitude, and financially. All of your opinions have the White Sox as the greatest dynasty of all time, and the Yankees a bunch of nobodies. As to the chemistry thing: Who cares if they're close in the clubhouse? I don't give a s*** if they stay after, play cards all night, attend the same whorehouses ... that's just good for stories. All I care about is if they win or not. Maybe I was wrong when I said "winning breeds chemistry". What's more accurate is the chemistry of winners is never questioned.
