SSH2005
I don't think you can simply because Garland is on the last year of his deal. Plus Griffey hurt his foot at the end of last year, but it was said he could've played after a week if they were in contention which they weren't. It'll be 5 years from now when people start saying he isn't injury prone anymore, and by then he'll be retired and others will be wishing we didn't miss the boat on him. Garland for Griffey or bust. I don't want Pods in CF. I don't want Abreu in CF. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Griffey would cost far too much money for us and he is far too old. That ship sailed at the trade deadline last season when the Reds' ownership nixed the trade.

If he was so healthy to play after a week then why didn't they let him at least spot start. Even with JG in his last year I am sure there are teams in the playoff hunt hungry to acquire a pitcher. SSH2005
Is there any way that Kenny is looking to deal Garland and Uribe for Tejada?
KevHead0881
I still think Garland stays. "We are looking to get better, and we don't want to put ourselves in a position where our first priority is compromised and that's pitching," White Sox GM Kenny Williams told reporters on Tuesday, before word of the deal leaked. "We are not trying to break up anything. We are looking to add to the equation, fortify it, and not anything else. It seems O's and Tejada have patched things up for now. Also, I think it would take more than that to get Tejada, and I mean ML talent. Sox near deal for D-Backs' Vazquez right, like I posted earlier, KW hates the World Baseball Classic, and I think he's OK with sticking B-Mac in the minors for another year and using him in spot starts if needed. SSH2005
I still think Garland stays. Sox near deal for D-Backs' Vazquez <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So keep a rotation of Buehrle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland, and Vazquez and then just let Garland go after 2006 and collect the draft picks? I can see that. But what does McCarthy do in the meantime?

santo=dorf
This is crazy. I kinda like acting like the Yankees or Red Sox and trading for every big name. Let's get to work on Tejada and Griffey after this B)

I can see that. But what does McCarthy do in the meantime? In this senario....B Mac pitches in key relief spots.... helps bridge the gap to the 9th if we don't get 7 out of the starter, and start whenever a starter is injured (which odds are good will happen to somebody at some point, the main point why we should keep Garland this year if we get Vasquez). SoxFan562004
The more I think about this trade the move I like it. There are teams that are supposed to be competative teams that are scrambling for solid 4th or 5th starters. Now KW has 6 solid starters. He can either stay where he is or hold all the cards in a potential deal. Look at the Cardinals, they made the NLCS last year, and they lost Matt Morris, how do you think their fans feel right now? They would likely give up a ton to get JG.
