joeynach
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) Boys, the aquisition of Javier Vazquez is a nice move. We gave up jack s*** to get him (though Chris Young will be a nice talent). Now, this begs the question, what happens with B-Mac. This kid is ready to start at the major league level, so... I believe there is another deal going down, and I think either Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland, or Jose Contreras will be dealt and we will get a CF back. Not only that, but I think that center fielder is Carl Crawford. This is pure speculation, but it seems quite possible now. I dont share your opinion. I think the sox acquired Vazquez to get better not to make another trade. El Duque and Viscaino were probably the worst pitchers we had so adding Vazquez is an upgrade. Who knows If you will even get 20 starts from El Duque and Viscaino was probably the weakest arm in the pen who was reduced to mop up role. Vazquez could turn out to be great or he could not. But Ill gamble on him given what cooper was able to do with Garland and Contreras. The sox now have 5 sold starters, unlike last year when they had 4 and a question mark at 5th with El Duque back and forth form the DL and then not winning a start over his last 9 or so. McCarthy was still a question mark being young and unproven. Now we have 5 starters, no questions for the first time and I love it. The key to winning at baseball is to add to your strenghts and KW knows that. How do you get better after winning it all, you add to your strengths and become dominant. This 5 man rotation is not going to get broken up. The deal looks even better with teh Dbacks sending $$ to the sox to pay for the contract to offset the difference between El Duque's. So to get a pitcher who wont go on the DL 4 times a year like our last years #5 starter we basically are gonna pay something like an extra 3-4 mil. Thats an awsome outcome. Move McCarthy to the pen for long relief to anchor it down with Cotts, Jenks, Pollite, and Hermy and we looks pretty good. Still need 1 more reliever though, teams carry 6 and we have 5. Soxfest
QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:44 AM) Carl Crawford for Garland straight up: yells yea! Crawford is a player I really like, has speed, has a high OBP, and plays good defense. He's young and fairly cheap to boot. Garland's stock is at the highest I think it will ever be. Time to get out while the gettings good with him. Comment on Garland is 100% right on.
heirdog
KW: "They will know when it's time to get serious." Translation: They will know when its time to pack their bags. KW: "By the way, it's probably time for them to get serious." Translation: Its probably time for one of them [Garland] to pack his bags. Regarding Garland, we patiently put up with 5 inconsistent seasons to finally get a good one. And I would argue, it too was inconsistent as he came out on fire and finished his normal 0.500 in the second half....luckily he picked it back up in his 2...yes 2...post-season starts, although he was magnificent. Now, I understand his point in getting the best "fair" deal but its nice to have some leverage with 6 potentially solid starters (including BMac). So if BMac is as good as he has looked, we won't miss Garland in the rotation as Vasquez is a more than adequate replacement. And safe to say, Garland will be gone next year and we will try to sign Zito, Mulder or one of the many available if needed. Now, with all that equal, would you rather use Garland to upgrade to Tejada by using Uribe and a couple prospects or get '07 edition Gio Gonzalez and '07 edition Tyler Lumsden in the draft. I think Tejada by a landslide.
DABearSoX
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) Blalock in the last 3 years has only hit .243 on the road with an OBP of .300. Rex Kickass
I would like to see Garland as our chip for the midseason. BMac can spot start and be long bullpen for the first half. If its JG's walk year, it's his money year too - and that kinda motivation might make him a great person to have pitching for the first half of the year. bighurt574
With Vasquez, I think another trade has to be in the works. KW will put the push on for Garland and Contreras to sign an extension (as he's already started to with some pretty strong words), and whoever won't sign will get dealt. If they can trade Garland for some big offense (Tejada, Abreu, Crawford), it makes sense. BMac proved last year that he deserves another shot at starting right now. It doesn't make sense to have him buried as a long reliever (how often did the Sox use a long reliever in 2005?) when Garland could land them an elite offensive player. hi8is
QUOTE(SoxRock05 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Cool It.....Theres nothin else going on with our Pitching Staff.....Garland's not going anywhere this year....Brian Anderson is going to be our CF....and hes gonna do a damn good job ou there......The trade for Thome was done to bring in power from the left side and to free up a position for Anderson. It would be pointless to trade away a very good CF just to lose more players to pick up another one when we already have one.....Tejada is not leaving Baltimore either.. JiYea!!!! im glad you know so much.... really... damn... wow.... dude, mind if i ask a question since you got a good grip on reality........ whats the f***ing point to life? captain video
OK.......call me crazy.....but with all the good moves Kenny keeps making, I'm getting a bit delirious........the Rangers need pitching.....how about Uribe and Garland to Texas for Mike Young and a reliever. He'd be a far better hitter from the 2 hole! And I like that .380+ OBP

iWiN4PreP
wow this opens so much options 1. we stay put - i love it 2. we get tejada - i love it 3. we get crawford - i love it 4. we get some1 random, like v. wells, mike young, etc. - i love/like it depending on the player.. the only wrong thing outta this situation is if we do indeed trade, i hope to god we dont lose more prospects, we lost enough already (not complaining, i love the trades, just dont want to see MORE go)

I would not want to give up my second best player (Texeira #1) for a year rental, especially right now when I don't know that I will be contending next year.
