sircaffey
Where does our payroll stand right now? If it was Garland instead of BMac in this deal, wouldn't it only be a slightly increase (3 mil?)?
NorthSideSox72
There is one thing that scares me a bit about getting Tejada, and it's the same thing that scares me with Vazquez - attitude. You can dismiss it all you want (which some people will), but the team last year had a lot of guys that would grind it out big time, day in and day out. These two guys have been doing a lot of complaining lately, and haven't exactly proven to be great presences. I'm just saying, that may have an effect on the clubhouse, and that effect can't be measured with their stats.
SSH2005
Hu...?? He can't even hold a conversation with 95% of the team and staff. Good grief.. Oh how I wish Crede had caught that damn ball. :headshake <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Haha, I was going to post this. Have you guys heard Uribe talk? He can BARELY string a few words together in English. He pretty much just says the same sentence over and over again. There's no way he's having deep conversations with guys like Konerko and Pierzynski. Harry Chappas
QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Yea!! And maybe we can take back Paul's contract and send his ass also since he did the same thing. :rolly Didn't Konerko want to resign last offseason and the Sox made him earn it. Then when he earned it he played the FA card. This was all the Sox fault but I do not fault either. Jon Garland should test free agency. Unless KW offered 4/$48M there is no way he should sign. Although if he gets hurt next year, he could be in trouble. Now if he goes 3/$30M he gets his lifetime of security and can hit the open market at 30 like Furcal did. I think they will settle at 2 yr $18M.

RockRaines
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 10:40 AM) How about you print me a list of the contracts that people have been getting in the free agent market the last two seasons and you explain to me how Garland won't get a better deal than the great majority of them? The market this year is different from one that will feature as many top level pitchers as next year.
Steff
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 11:08 AM) Always bringing us that insider info steff. Take Levine's job. Eh.. no thanks. Seriously, MT was the leader in that clubhouse at the start of the season and when they started losing he got on their asses a lot. Sadly the Sidney, Raffy, and Sosa issues caused a lot of turmoil that couldn't be righted. The guy is a horse. An asset to any team lucky enough to have him. The guy is ALWAYS at the mound with the pitcher, ALWAYS taking control in the field, pop ups, dp's whatever, he is the best SS i have seen in awhile in the sox uniform. Its so closed minded to criticize a guys language skills, and not consider his actual leadership qualitities. Because, speaking with current players, the guy is a great presence. Thanks. And Tejada is that much better of a SS and would be better than Uribe in a Sox uniform and could speak with everyone in his clubhouse. Tejada is a guy who does everything Uribe does except better. The only thing Uribe has is a stronger arm, but Tejada's arm is no joke either. Tejada is a natural born leader through example and verbally. Uribe is only a leader through example. No. Uribe barely - mostly never - even spoke to anyone, much less on the mound. Control on the field.. again.. no. Aaron and Joe called 99.9% of the plays. From the horses mouths. It's not closed minded to relay facts. I'm not denying he's a nice guy. But leader.. again.. no.

SoxFan562004
As much as I would like to see Tejada added, I don't see it happening. I know the O's want to smooth over the Tejada stuff, at least in the public eye, so they don't lose leverage on a trade, but I think they will try and make it work for awhile. They signed MT looking to build their franchise around him for at least six years, these rumblings from him just started, I would believe they would want to try and smooth things out. Also, his trade value won't drop before the trade deadline, so they can at least try and work things out until then. Also, according the the Trib I believe, other than the Ramirez offer, there were never any players discussed with the O's from any team, even the Cubs, there were just initial phone calls. With the exceptions of post strike years, when was the last time free agents contracts got smaller one year vs the next one?

Who said anything about contracts getting smaller, if you read my posts, Garland will not be one of the top pitchers out there. He wont make as much money as the elite or top three arms on the market, because only a certain amount of teams are willing to overpay for arms. Thats all.
