The Doom and Gloom

I don't post a whole lot in PHT mainly because of threads like "The Evil Kenny Williams" and the numerous ones in the past. Every move KW made was lambasted & if he didn't make a move he was lambasted. It was like him walking on water and then getting yelled at for not swimming.

From our future HOF catcher Miguel Olivo being traded to get our mediocre starter Freddy Garcia...to whining that all KW got was Blum during the midseason trade deadline...to the recent doom and gloom about El Duque getting traded for Vazquez...

I am getting so sick of it, I could puke geysers of blood out of my eyes. For f***'s sake, they just won the goddamn World Series. Methinks KW has some idea about what he is doing. He's made excellent moves.

While it angers me a little bit that Duque left, I just remembered his forays as a starter earlier last season. If I wanted to see four balls that often, I'd be out renting XXX gay porn.

Rowand leaving was bad but you can't make an omlete without breaking a few eggs. With a hurt Frank Thomas being a liability & Kong being a FA, KW had to shore up some much needed power in the lineup. The fact that Thome then went and assisted us in getting Kong (and much needed protection in the lineup) only makes our lineup that much more devastating -- plus how funny is it that we screwed the Angels out of two major power bats? Not to mention the fact that the minors are stocked with outfielders coming out the yin yang so Rowand is replaceable.

I think Vazquez will find his form. Look at the job that Cooper has done with players that have the raw, untapped potential & getting them to perform well (Garland, The Count, etc.)

So please people...think before posting because I (and I'm sure tons of others) don't appreciate the doom and gloom. Crack open a beer, realize the Sox won the Series, drink and then realize that -- despite the whining, we've got another season ahead of us in a few months because with some of the bile being thrown around here, I almost thought I missed all 162 games of the '06 season.

It's funny cause most of the contenders in the AL have not got that much better yet the team who just won the world series has got much better. Kenny knows what he's doing and he's doing a hell of a job making this team a legit WS contender this year and beyond.

I was going to post about that point. How many GM's in the history of sports can honestly say they took a championship team and not only maintain the talent level but make it appreciably better for the next season. I guarantee you its a small club and KW just joined it.

I totally agree. The worst thing you can do after winning the World Series is do nothing and be afraid of breaking something up. Yes El Duque was pivitol in that game in Boston and helped in Game 3 in Houston. Yes AAron Rowand was part of the personality of this team. But ya know what you gotta say thanks for the help now its time to move on. You helped get us a ring and in turn we all celebrated but life goes on and we have to make this team the best it can be for next year and the years after.

Thome makes us better, Vazquez makes us better, Mackowiak makes us better and ya know what you cant sit on your hand and do nothing becuase the other guys were friends in the clubhouse. The object is to win not make people happy. Crede and AJ will make new friends, same with contreras. All yo do is make sure you dont bring in bad apples and your chemistry will be fine. The white sox won 99 games with a lot of calls going their way, good fortune, and some career years from unexpected players (cotts, politte, hermy, garland, contreras). So ya know what we need to get better cuz there is no gurantee the intangebiles that won us some games will be back, even if we stood pat. KW is saint to this organization and i Believe he should recieve a bonus or extension. He approaches the game the right way and is a true professional of the GAME.

It was already said, but this was awesome. I got a great visual.

And I completely agree. I went to a couple games last year that he pitched and it was unbearable. First inning, bases loaded. Walks, full counts...it was horrible. I'm so glad they were able to get something for him. I enjoyed his playoff performances and will always remember him.

I say good luck to you El Duque. :cheers

I had no problem with the Thome trade. It was the kind of trade that probably helped both teams. But we needed insurance if Konerko left, and Thome helped bring Konerko back. So I'd rate the trade as a big plus.

I wanted KW to pursue Brian Giles. It would have been a fabulous move, as Giles is an offensive machine and came reasonably priced. Plus, as a free agent, he wouldn't have cost us any prospects. But even had we bid, it is unlikely we could have pried him away from San Diego.

I thought the Mackowiak trade was a huge plus. Marte was a head case, and we need a lefty who can back up the infield and outfield positions.

Konerko re-signing was obviously another very good deal.

But the Vasquez trade leaves me scratching my head. And it is not so much Kenny Williams I have criticism for, it is the Sox fans on this website who want to just dump Jon Garland now. To that I think -- what ungrateful, and uneducated, fans.

Vasquez is no match for Garland as a pitcher, and had we had Javier instead of Jon last year, we'd still be singing the second place blues.

Plus, to lose Chris Young in the deal is painful. To my mind, Young and McCarthy were the only two prospects in the Sox's system who will have great careers. Anderson, Sweeney, Owens, Borchard, and Reed before them, etc. are not going to pan out as complete players I don't think. They may have some use, like Aaron Rowand did for us, but I don't see any of them ever surpassing Rowand's contributions. Chris Young, on the other hand, is going to be great I believe. Think Magglio Ordonez (before he was injured).

I hope Coop can work miracles with Vazquez. And I hope if we do trade Garland, we get a major impact player in return. But right now my hopes for a 2006 repeat have lessened, not increased.

Oh I don't know, maybe to give Sox fans from around the USA and the world one place to unite and ENJOY the team?

thank you and if it just an area to rant, then so be it.

i believe that posting shouldn't be harshly jump on, or for that fact being called names esp from moderators or admin's

we should enjoy that fact that we won the WS, kw is making trades, whether we like them or not and this place give us, the fans a place to talk baseball. healthy debates is fun.

now that is my rant

Chris Young and Gio Gonzalez.  The contributed exactly what to this World Championship team?

they are prospect and can develop into something good. i am for tradning anyone as long as we get fair value in return and will help us to get to the world series. which we did, now make trades that will keep us there, which kw is. i just don't want to fleece at the same time.

The thing that we don't know is will either of these guys ever pan out. Will they be Joe Borchard and John Rauch or Willie Mays and Bob Gibson? We are CURRENTLY in a position to build upon last years success and be favorites to get another WC. Strike while the iron is hot. When the time comes for us to rebuild, then prospects have greater importance. We aren't at that point right now.

and with that, i totally agree with what you are saying. i have no problem trading these prospects, if they were the final piece of the puzzle to build or in this case keep the sox on top. lets not trade all of our prospects, what do have left when 3 yrs down the road.

i love the trades b/c kw was agressive and address sox needs to keep us on top. all i said and asked, did we give up too much.

when was the last time the sox made a trade and we were the winners of the trade. let not include this offseason.
